The rumors about a Verizon Wireless iPhone have been swirling around since the launch of the first handset from Cupertino. And, with every new iteration, there’s new rumors about the device making it’s jump over to the Big Red Checkmark. While nothing is impossible, from what we’ve seen in the past, it doesn’t look like Apple has any qualms about sticking it out with AT&T. They seem perfectly complacent with the second largest wireless network in the States, even as customers all over the country cry about the carrier’s network coverage and inconsistencies.

However, if a report from CBS is to be believed, then it looks like Ivan Seidenberg –CEO of Verizon Wireless– has confirmed that the company is indeed looking to pick up the iPhone from Apple. According to the report, Seidenberg told Apple that he is interested in his company carrying the iPhone, but he isn’t saying when that could happen. In fact, he’s playing this one close to the vest, and not disclosing any details on the subject right now.
The remark came up during a talk the CEO was having with the Council on Foreign Relations, in which Seidenberg referenced the Wall Street Journal’s report that the iPhone was indeed coming to Verizon Wireless. Neither Seidenberg, or Apple, would make further comments on the statements. Additionally, it doesn’t look like AT&T is talking about it either (no surprise there, right?). Whether or not AT&T continues its exclusivity with the iPhone might actually get cleared up come this Thursday, when Apple removes the curtain from its iPhone OS 4.0. Hurry up and wait, as they say.
