The LG Dare is going to be an interesting phone. It has a sleek interface and is about the same size as the new iPhone 3G. However, the LG lacks some of the things the new iPhone 3G does have, but you will either like the LG Dare or the iPhone better. They both have a touch screen and camera/video, as well as on-screen text. However, the LG Dare was created before the new iPhone 3G, so you can be assured that the iPhone 3G will have a few newer features the Dare doesn’t have. For instance, the iPhone 3G has turn-by-turn GPS navigation, which the Dare does not have…it has standared GPS with directions only, not pictorial turn-by-turn. The iPhone also comes with ATT’s Internet service (with pay), but the LG Dare uses Verizon Wireless’s internet, which does use Microsoft IE as well, but doesn’t promise the same good service ATT has already established. The LG Dare, however, does have its own features like Music (provided by Verizon Wireless), RingTones, Video Downloads, and TV (the Dare also has a hidden antenna that recieves TV reception using VZW’s service) and you can watch it directly on the phone, live. The iPhone has this as well, provided by MAC’s iTunes, with live podcasts, TV, Music, Videos, and other games that can be loaded straight to the phone like with iPod. You can, unlike with the LG Dare, choose songs from your built-in iPod in the iPhone 3G and make it your ringtone or “ringback,” or anything else the iPhone 3G lets you put it as. The LG Dare, however, doesn’t allow this. You have to specifically download a song as a song, a ringtone, or ringback, and use it AS that. If you download a song and decide you want it as your ringtone, you have to pay VZW to buy the ringtone. If you like ringtones and other music/download apps, the iPhone would be cheaper. Speaking of price, the iPhone 3G costs $199 for 8BG and $299 for 16GB. The VZW LG Dare is assumed to start out costing around $199-$200 range, then possibly lower after all the “hype.” For more information about the iPhone 3G, visit iPhone.com. It’s scheduled to released July 11. The LG Dare should be out by late June. If not, expect it to be out sometime after the new iPhone 3G releases…businesspeople might want to release the Dare after the iPhone in hopes that the Dare will steal some of the hype of the iPhone and take some revenue.
Well yes the iphone is like the best phone in the whole world. and yes it’s cheap in price to get that phone. but in the long run att will rape you in the long run with there pricy plans. Verizon is overall better service and a better network than att. the dare is not as great as the iphone but still competes. it really depends on what you want. I think the best phone out there on the market but end up payin a lot for it in the long run with the expensive plans. or a pretty good phone with a great network and ok plans for an ok price. right now i’m still decideing what i want. but i think i’m going to stick with verizon!
I read somewhere there are different kinds of touch sensitive interfaces. Like the iphone uses touch sensitive whereas the LG Voyager even though touch screen, but uses a pressure sensitive technology leaving a sloppy interface. Does anyone know about LG Dare’s touch sensitive technology?
Am getting the LG Dare for 4 reason. Verizon is a better carrier. ATT sucks. For $40.00 less I can get unlimited everything including Verizon’s turn by turn gps service. It’s bluetooth is compatible to everything. INterchangeable 8 gb memory.
The Dare actually has everything that the iPhone has with the top plan, which to say is much cheaper than anything ATT has to offer. The ring tone thing may be a draw back to some, but who cares. The type of people that use a phone like the iPhone or the Dare don’t put special songs to identify who is calling them. It’s called read the name one the big screen that you’re provided with. As a user of Verizon’s turn by turn navigation, I have to say that it is dead on and I have found myself to many places with it’s help. The Garmin and other such devices I don’t think even match what Verizon has, and they are improving it all the time. Interchangeable memory is a big advantage over the solid state drives in the iPhone.
The only drawback I have heard about with the Dare is that when using the internet to look at youtube or something, the videos won’t work.
I can live with out that and it should only be some time after that someone makes a new update for the phone that allows it to run java. Even if that update only comes with the next phone I shall live.
In my final word, for the over all price and the strength of the network Verizon takes the lead. The Dare loses minor applications that the iPhone can run, but it’s truly not a big deal.
WOW!! The phone looks great! But the GPS is still obviously suppressed…Yet again! If you want TRUE GPS, Get the Iphone.
The VZNavigator service can only be used on Verizon’s network to triangulate your location. It’s also using YOUR monthly minutes during this stage to update maps, and “ping” your location. On the weekends you’re obviously ok, but during the week…Minutes are minutes.
You would think since the majority of Verizon phone’s do have some form of A-GPS variables, it would also allow the ability for you to install your own software…WRONG! Verizon has specifically requested in the design of their phones, to restrict access to the network capabilities of the A-GPS chipset, and only allow them to work with VZNavigator software and the E911 network. Independent satellite acquisition has also been disabled while not using VZNavigator. So in the event you lose connectivity to the Verizon network, you’re screwed.
Based off the Iphone G3 specs; this particular A-GPS chipset has been programmed to work with Satellites, Wifi, and cell sites to provide coordinates in the event you lose connectivity to the network. PLUS you can use the soon to be released Iphone IGO My Way, and Iphone Tom Tom navigation software, and the massive slew of freeware/homebrew applications people will design when the source code is released at the end of this month…ALL FOR FREE.
I just feel you shouldn’t be forced, or have to pay $9.99 every month for a service that doesn’t fit to your needs, when you can just pay a onetime fee (purchasing of the software of YOUR choice) and use a TRUE GPS system.

ok in responce to the comment by LG Dare………….. At&T establishing a better internet service than verizon is b.s. verizon has the most all over wireless coverage especially since they just bought Alltel and honestly why would u buy an iphone if you cant even take off the battery? (think about it. if you start having power problems you have to get your phone shipped back to the manufacturer because you cant do it yourself the iphone is a nice phone im not dennying that ………. but with verizon being a better company for me in southern utah the dare will be much better than a phone with a permenant battery
LG DARE, you have not done your research. The Dare does have turn by turn gps and offers pictorial directions, (pictoral is not a word). You stated “Same good service ATT has established”…Are you serious?? I know too many who have the iphone and love the phone, HATE the unreliable service….and since the Dare has come available…they may be changing over to the Dare and the service.
i was the first one to get the dare on friday after placing the order on june 26th. this phone rocks…the new iphone killer…to all those waiting for the the new iphone i recomend to think it over
i got my lg dare on the 27th i think its a great phone battery life is incredible ive charged it fully 1 time and it last days with regular use…… one other thing this phone can b insured and in any case replaced if ….LOST…. not like the i phone if i dish out 200 on a phone i want insurance …… u i phone owners better not ever loose sight of ur uninsurable i phone……. or better yet just come join verizon wireless and have sum security in ur investment…..
THIS PHONE IS AMAZING! i dont know why people hate on this phone because the LG Dare is truly amazing! it is a reliable phone with an even more reliable service. i dont know why anyone WOULD’NT get this phone! :]
ok so I have the voyager and it is an amazing phone I love it to death! and I’m sure the Dare is even better…which like other posters have said THE VOYAGER DOES HAVE TURN BY TURN DIRECTIONS WITH TRAFFIC UPDATES AS WELL. No the internet is not as “cool” as the iphone but that is what your computer at home is for. To be honest I was pretty excited when I first got the phone to have internet on my phone but I honestly don’t even use it that much. It’s a phone it makes and receives calls, thats all you NEED, everything else is just extra. There is a great website called Mobile17.com you take your songs from your itunes library or wherever you keep your music and you cut the part of the song you want and make your own ringtones for free! and they don’t sound hollow or crappy like most other sites. I haven’t paid for a ringtone in a year. And music can be put on a memory card from your computer onto your phone just like an iphone without having to purchase it from verizon. And every phone has problems ESPECIALLY with these new high tech phones. I know people who’ve replaced their iphones 3 and 4 times…and I also know people who’ve replaced their voyagers and people will replace their dares…but I’d rather have verizons GREAT service than an iphone!
The LG Dare guy way on the top is wrong on some parts. The iphone 3G does not have video recording and the LG Dare does not have Live Tv or built in antenna fot tv
I really don’t have enough time to write the details, but I just got this phone on July the 3rd. The phone is A-MA-Y zing. It’s like the iPhone but much much more. You still have access to HTML internet, it’s just not as fast. But the iPhone’s price and plans are ridiculous. In addition to that, maybe 3G is good but the AT & T voice quality does not even come close to Verizon. When you make a call on the AT & T network, it sounds like you are making an international call and you hear a lot of white noise in the background.
This LG phone has amazing features. Up to 8 GIG of memory to add, Video, 3.2 MG camera with flash and auto focus. This is just the tip of the iceberge. This phone blow iPhone away. The only plus on the new iPhone is the internet and internet access speed. Awesome!!!! I am really impressed…
to the comments regarding music…if you have a pc, mac, linux…etc as long as you have bluetooth, you should be able to send FULL songs to the LG DARE (along with other verizon phones) without any problems. alot of people are hating on VCAST because “it’s not like iTunes” but as long as you know what you’re doing you should be fine. i have the new chocolate phone right now but i’m upgrading in september and i think i will go with the DARE. i’ve sent ringtones, ringback tones, music…etc to my phone for the past year without paying a single dime. for ringtones i’ve used PHONEZOO.COM and it’s free and works great. yes the iphone 3G is a great phone and has many great features but with verizon phones you can make up for most of those features by just doing a lil research and trying a few things. basically as long as you have 3 functioning brain cells music, ringtones, etc isn’t going to be a problem/inconvenience on a verizon phone.
My best friend is getting the iphone 3G this friday so i guess when i get the DARE we’ll find out exactly what is better.
as for the reasons i wouldn’t want an iphone:
1. (just a rumor i heard) when you buy it through the apple store you must activate it within a month or return it otherwise you get feed. If you do ever terminate your plan with at&t, you have to give up the phone as well or get feed. therefore you WILL NOT be able to get a “good deal” on the iPhone 3G through eBay. pretty much the phone owns you not the other way around.
2. can’t replace battery yourself=you’re screwed. Probably get a nice fee and either way you have to temporarily go without a phone
3. has a storage limit of 16GB maximum. with verizon i can keep buying as many 8GB micro sd cards=infinite/unlimited memory
4. verizon has a better service, although here in western mass i don’t think it’s as big of a difference
5. the iPhone almost seems like it’s intended for people in big corporations where they always need updates from the company, hence the 3G, integrated server connection, mobileMe etc. almost a whole hour of the keynote address on apple was spent explaining why several huge multi-million corporations are excited about the iPhone.
6. it has way too many extra features for a regular guy like me who isn’t a tech-junkie and just needs a device to communicate in few ways with friends, family, etc. i mean come on, how often are you gonna play a game with gyro-tilt control that reacts by the position of the phone?
7. app store?!?! come on!!! if you have the time to search for “cool” applications on your phone, you probably have the time to sit around at home and do the same thing on your computer.
8. No Flash. i HATE this about my chocolate and i can’t wait to get a phone that has it. remember the good old days where the first phones that had a camera, almost all had a flash too?
personally the DARE just suits me better, and i guess there are a few things where the DARE betters the iPhone
Question: I am addicted to podcasts and currently use iTunes/iPod. I was considering an iPhone until I saw the Dare.
Is there an iTunes-type application for my PC that is available for use with the Dare that can sync my songs AND podcasts? Or will I be stuck with some Verizon-only subscription-based stuff?
It’s a good phone, but for verizon wireless, it’s the best phone you can find for a touch screen so far, discuss more about the LG Dare at http://www.LG-Dare.com I can’t wait for the BlackBerry Thunder to come out.
How much does the lg dare cost. im getting an upgrade for having a phone for 2 years and i want the lg dare. they say you get hundred dollars off if you are the head phone but im not! so how much do you think that i have to pay?
My bf and i brought this phone last week and i can search youtube and view the videos fine. The store models even did so. You get $100 off the retail pricefor the phone is 409.99 with discount its 309.99. However i did want a black berry but for vzw and RIM you have to get a data plan which is about 29.99 and with all the tax on things and gas going up i re-thought it and relized that the dare does everything that i need.
for everyone who keeps saying lg dare is copying the iphone, your wrong iphone is copying lg prada which came out before both phones and ig dare is the upgrade of the prada.
Currently the best touch screen phone from Verizon Wireless, http://www.LG-Dare.com provides more info on this, but if you are a big texter, I suggest you take a look at LG voyager before buying the Dare.
I have the LG Dare, I’ve had an iPhone and I’ve had a Samsung Glyde and the LG Dare is BY FAR the BEST PHONE I’VE EVER OWNED, PERIOD! As an Apple Developer I can personally tell you the iPhone is FLAWED way more than anyone is ever going to hear. And if you truly want TRUE GPS then buy the LG Dare. Also for the record, the LG Dare DOES in fact have turn by turn direction via VA Navigator. I have tested every aspect of the LG Dare and I am quite satisfied with this phone except for one small problem tbat isn’t even related to the phone itself. You can’t find a decent protective case for this phone. I swear by the brand, Body Glove which in my humble opinion is by far thr best mobile phone case ever devised, the problem is Body Glove (which is a Fellowe’s Product in disguise) doesn’t make a snap-on case for the Dare as of yet.
Once I secure a true protective case that protects every corner of the Dare from sustaining damage when accidently dropped I won’t be happy.
For your knowledge the Dare has handwriting recognition software that’ll recognise MOST squibbles jotted doen plus it had “TRUE” Voice Recognition too. By that I mean one can talk normally and this phone is 99% accurate. In other words you don’t have to say certain keywords and you DON’T have to speak slowly - it picks up every word with almost pure perfection and those is doesn’t recognize it’ll ask for verification - TWO MAJOR features the iPhone will NEVER have. Plus you can dowmload a slew of apps something Apple recently gave in to after months of consumer begging.
It’s actually clear to see the LG Dare goes above and beyond the iPhone with one exception, it isn’t an Apple Product but in every other way this LG Dare outperforms any mobile phone to date INCLUDING ANY VERSION OF AN iPhone to date and in the foreseeable future!
Yes, Lisa it does, up to 8GB of memory. Also, I wish to apologize (My Bad) for the terrible spelling errors of my own little humble observation. Not only does it make one wonder, it makes me wonder, how I successfully got past 2nd grade.
To date some of the flaws have been revealed with the iPhone and will CONTINUE to do so! I still love this phone albeit still no hard case for complete protection. Why is that? This phone is a pure pleasure to use and to my knowledge has NO “KILL SWITCH” as found in the iPhone!
I thought this was a FREE COUNTRY. Doesn’t this sound a wee bit like censorship? What’s Olama going to do about this? I’d say he attempt a smooth switcherwoo filled with his NORMAL RACISM, ELITISM, and cocky bungled lies while Harpo is kissing his A$$ or using her strap-on wherever and whenever she’ll wield as VP! I’d like to place a bet she’ll be humping in the Lincoln Bedroom the night of his dredded ignoration (I meant inauguration, really I did), any takers?
Pros:
Light, Small and Compact.
Good Battery Life
Good Signal with a Fast Browser
Rubberized back for good grip
Cons:
Texting is hard to get good at for some people like me
Low light produced for backlight(glare)
Sometimes people complain of not being able to hear me.
Video camera has a blue tint problem in high speed.
This is one of the best phones released for verizon network. The touchscreen is amazingly accurate especially coming from the voyager which touchscreen sucks in accuracy. So they really improved it when making this phone. Multi-tasking music player is also a plus when your on those bored days with nothing to do besides texting. Some things that need to be worked on are some of the glitches that the phone produces such as the phone restarting when doing something such as scrolling through text messages on the phone but you can fix this by resetting the phone which I found out on http://LG-Dare.com. But I believe the restarting problems can be fixed in a firmware update. But the phone has alot of tricks and features which you might not figure out until a couple of days after you get the phone. I know LG made a site( http://www.lgmobilephones.com/phone.aspx?id=8712 ) thats basically a picture manual for the LG Dare and it really helped learn the phone also.
I definitely think the Dare is a better choice. Im all about the features and if you go to http://estore.vzwshop.com/dare/ and watch the video, you’ll see all the cool features it has.
Plus, Verizon is so much better than ATT especially if your friends have it because then you can call them for free as much as you want.
Twista if your dare doesnt automatically adjust the lighting to handle glare and dark rooms or very bright rooms it may be possible you have a deffective model the phone should automatically adjust for light

Poster “LG Dare” is full of crap…he is talking out his Butt.
Go to howardforums. for real info.
There is no TV service on the Dare, there is no internal antenna.
It will use VZ Navigator for GPS directions.
BitPim will allow you to import ringtones like it does with most other Verizon phones, more than likely.
Read the real insider info at howardforums…not this wanna be.

This phone doesn’t have mobile tv according to http://www.LG-Dare.com
Any ideas if it has stereo sound or mono sound?

Yes the dare does have turn by turn directions with VZ Navigator.. where did this guy get his info?!?! This phone Rocks!

LG DARE, you have not done your research. The Dare does have turn by turn gps and offers pictorial directions, (pictoral is not a word). You stated “Same good service ATT has established”…Are you serious?? I know too many who have the iphone and love the phone, HATE the unreliable service….and since the Dare has come available…they may be changing over to the Dare and the service.

ok so I have the voyager and it is an amazing phone I love it to death! and I’m sure the Dare is even better…which like other posters have said THE VOYAGER DOES HAVE TURN BY TURN DIRECTIONS WITH TRAFFIC UPDATES AS WELL.

Is it true that the LG Dare will not be in stores until mid July?
July 6th, 2008 at 6:00 pm
The LG Dare guy way on the top is wrong on some parts. The iphone 3G does not have video recording and the LG Dare does not have Live Tv or built in antenna fot tv
July 8th, 2008 at 7:40 pm
Will the Dare have video chat or just video recording?
July 8th, 2008 at 10:43 pm

July 11th, 2008 at 5:29 pm
It’s a good phone, but for verizon wireless, it’s the best phone you can find for a touch screen so far, discuss more about the LG Dare at http://www.LG-Dare.com I can’t wait for the BlackBerry Thunder to come out.
July 12th, 2008 at 8:35 am
How much does the lg dare cost. im getting an upgrade for having a phone for 2 years and i want the lg dare. they say you get hundred dollars off if you are the head phone but im not! so how much do you think that i have to pay?
July 20th, 2008 at 1:55 pm
My bf and i brought this phone last week and i can search youtube and view the videos fine. The store models even did so. You get $100 off the retail pricefor the phone is 409.99 with discount its 309.99. However i did want a black berry but for vzw and RIM you have to get a data plan which is about 29.99 and with all the tax on things and gas going up i re-thought it and relized that the dare does everything that i need.
July 20th, 2008 at 1:56 pm
*29.99 extra to your bill
July 20th, 2008 at 2:04 pm
If you want a gps go to radio shack and get a damn real one
July 20th, 2008 at 2:06 pm
for everyone who keeps saying lg dare is copying the iphone, your wrong iphone is copying lg prada which came out before both phones and ig dare is the upgrade of the prada.

If you buy the phone do you have to pay monthly for Internet Service even if you don’t want the Internet?
July 30th, 2008 at 7:17 pm

August 8th, 2008 at 6:58 pm
does the LG Dare have a Micro SD slot for a memory card!??
August 12th, 2008 at 3:27 pm
August 17th, 2008 at 2:59 pm
how much do you think the LG Dare will drop in price withing one year?
August 18th, 2008 at 8:09 am
August 27th, 2008 at 2:03 pm
I definitely think the Dare is a better choice. Im all about the features and if you go to http://estore.vzwshop.com/dare/ and watch the video, you’ll see all the cool features it has.
Plus, Verizon is so much better than ATT especially if your friends have it because then you can call them for free as much as you want.
Here is another good video you should watch if you are interested in getting the dare: http://reviews.cnet.com/cell-phones/lg-dare-verizon-wireless/4505-6454_7-33070218.html

September 4th, 2008 at 7:32 pm
Twista if your dare doesnt automatically adjust the lighting to handle glare and dark rooms or very bright rooms it may be possible you have a deffective model the phone should automatically adjust for light
October 3rd, 2008 at 1:18 am
can you install skyfire to the dare? and if so, how?
