You are wrong Edward. I have my telus diamond touch in my hand.
Got it yesterday and it’s great.
I went to the telus store and i called telus headoffice it wont be out in stores till the 19th of AUG that is the CDMA version although you can get the GSM version right now.
Touch diamond Phone is great but Telus has decided to strip it bare (No fm radio, no quick gps) You have to use Telus’ gps software at $10 a month. That is not fair and shows how greedy they are.
Don’t use telus navigator…download google maps and use gps for free. Thats what i did. In order to download google maps u have to use internet explorer, opera won’t download it for some reason. The a-gps feature won’t work in google maps but if your outside in clear sight of the sky, the gps works just fine. As for the fm radio…i don’t know, but i’m sure you can download some program off the web that will give you fm radio.
Thanks mikey. I tried to download google maps mobile using Opera on the Touch Diamond and got the error message, so figured it wasn’t compatible until I found your posting. IE downloaded it just fine. Had to set the GPS manually to COM4, but then it found the internal GPS no problem and zeroed right in on my location. Pretty cool. Now, if only I can find a solution to get the FM radio working.
I have the Diamond Touch from Telus and have google maps loaded on it. I cant get it to work with the gps. Under the gps options I have tried both the auto mode and COM4. It either just sits there saying it sees 0 satalites or with COM4 it says it cant find the gps receiver. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Any idea about FM radio? Do you know of any free software that would give you this?
Thanks for the Google Maps tip Mikey – took all of about 30 seconds to download and get it working. Very cool. I wonder if the GPS activity will be covered by my data plan. That could be a month end shock!
Would be nice to get the fm radio working as easily.

hey Burt… i tried this:
All Settings -> System -> External GPS
under Program port: None
Hardware port: COM4
I fired up Google maps then had to select option: “Use GPS”. voila!
you might have to select “My Location” so the marker will pan to your current spot.
now I too wonder if my data plan covers this…
I did the above setting for GPS and downloaded Google Map. I doesn’t show any satalites on clear sky. I spoke to HTC Tech support, they dodn’t help much.
It appears Telus has blocked google maps. I get a failure to install on my Diamond. Techs at Telus confirm the current phones are blocked. Any suggestions on how to unblock the phone?
Google maps works fine on mine, never changed any settings, downloded via IE. The mian problem I’m having with the phone is Telus pocket express doesn’t work, been talking to tech support and they havn’t been able to figure it out, and telus navigator app isn’t available for the touch diamond yet anyways
I’m not sure about this, but the first gen diamond phones from Telus doesn’t have Google Maps blocked. However, I have noticed that Telus Navigator for the Diamond is still NOT available. If someone out there has a Telus HTC Touch Diamond WITH a working Telus Navigator on the phone, please let me know how you got it, as I do want the software, but I know I won’t be using it enough to pay $10/mo. for it.
BTW, Google Maps uses a fairly small amount of your data plan, because it has to go online for the maps, and if no GPS satellites are available, it will connect to the cellphone towers to extrapolate your position. However, connecting to the GPS satellites doesn’t cost anything.
thanks for your post,great info.
The Telus version of this phone is so Lame! No FM radio, a boring Plastic back plate, NO Picture/video messaging, NO front camera (for video calls), NO proper headphone jack (but that’s not Telus’ fault), and then there’s that GPS thing that people have been talking about….
They are a company of Retards.
I thing The Radio App is missing. Regarding google maps, I have a bell CDMA. I did a hard rest and everytime it asked me to install bell ui, I did a soft rest after about 5 min, I was running factory default settings and was able to install Google maps.
