CTIA2009: Yahoo! Announces new Yahoo! Mobile for iPhone and Other Mobile Devices

Announced at Mobile World Congress in February, Yahoo! Mobile for the Web is now available across more than 300 devices with HTML-enabled mobile browsers by visiting http://new.m.yahoo.com, while the Yahoo! Mobile iPhone app is now available in the Apple iPhone App Store. Both are currently available in eight countries across Europe, Asia and the Americas, including the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Germany, France, India, Indonesia and the Philippines, with additional localized versions expected to launch over the next several months. Additionally, the company will preview the soon-to-be-launched Yahoo! Messenger app for the iPhone.

Yahoo! Mobile offers an open environment within which consumers can bring together their favorite content and services from across the Internet. The new Yahoo! Messenger application will provide iPhone users in the U.S. with the industry’s leading messaging experience. Features include the ability to send and receive instant messages, exchange photos, add contacts, change status, send emoticons, and stay logged in an idle state when using other applications on the iPhone. In addition to this standalone iPhone application, Yahoo! Messenger is also available within Yahoo! Mobile (both for the Web and iPhone) and as an application on several other types of mobile devices from leading manufacturers.

Yahoo! Go now available for the BlackBerry Bold

Yahoo! launches their Go application version 3.0.47 and allows you to enjoy the best of the Internet on your phone for free — such as send email, upload photos, download maps, get stock quotes, and get breaking news. This new version of Yahoo! Go includes support for the BlackBerry Bold.

Yahoo! Go now runs on over 330 phones worldwide, including many Windows Mobile Devices. You can download the free software at http://mobile.yahoo.com/go.

Virgin Media’s Mobile Portal to Feature Yahoo! oneSearch Service

Virgin Media and Yahoo! announced that Yahoo! oneSearch will power the Internet search on Virgin Media’s new, enhanced mobile portal. The Virgin Media mobile portal will be available to consumers on the 8th of December, and brings the world of news, music, video, games and entertainment, as well as Yahoo!’s award-winning mobile search experience, straight to consumers’ pockets.

Yahoo! oneSearch will provide Virgin Media’s mobile consumers with relevant information on virtually any topic — from news, financial information, weather conditions, Flickr photos and lottery results, to Web and mobile web sites, travel information, integrated information from Wikipedia and Yahoo! Answers, and much more. Yahoo! oneSearch will also display relevant ringtones, wallpapers, games and other content within search results.

T-Mobile Introduces web2go and Partnership with Yahoo oneSearch

T-Mobile USA is introducing web2go, providing customers with better Web browsing, improved search with Yahoo! oneSearch, a customizable home page and a simplified shopping and download experience. The new service allows its subsribers to visit virtually the entire Internet from their mobile phone, ensuring Web pages are easy to view and navigate. You can also browse and purchase the latest ringtones, games, wallpaper and mobile optimized applications and services to customize their phone. Further, a My Downloads feature enables certain applications, games and content that customers purchase to continue to be available to them when they upgrade to new phones.

Yahoo! oneSearch powers mobile Internet searches made through T-Mobile web2go, available starting today on T-Mobile phones. Providing customers with access to the latest news, information and content, Yahoo! oneSearch intuitively returns search results grouped around the person’s intent. For instance, when customers search for a sports team, Yahoo! returns the latest scores, schedules, team profiles, roster, news, images and a link to the team’s Web site. Alternatively, if a user searches for a movie, Yahoo! returns show times at local theatres, reviews, news articles and information on the cast.

Yahoo! oneSearch will also display relevant ringtones, wallpaper, games and other content available in the T-Mobile store within search results, eliminating the need for customers to search within a separate window for downloadable content.

Web2go is available today across the majority of new T-Mobile phones, including most Motorola, Nokia, Samsung, Sony Ericsson and BlackBerry handsets. This enhancement is automatic for T-Mobile customers with compatible phones. T-Mobile plans to make web2go available on nearly all new T-Mobile phones over the coming months.
