Vodafone have announced at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona a pair of handsets they dubbed the cheapest mobile phones in the world. Both handsets, the Vodafone 150 and the Vodafone 250 (shown below) are aimed at emerging markets and are been manufactured by Chinese vendor TCL.

The Vodafone 150 (shown above to the left) will have indeed a really low price at just $15.00. For that price you get a basic phone with a 1 inch 96 x 64 monochrome display, polyphonic ringtones, dual-band GSM, a currency converter, an alarm clock, 2 embedded games and a built-in “torch” (light in the back). The handset doesn’t have a camera but it does give you voice calls and SMS as well as a built in mobile payment service.

The Vodafone 250 (shown above to the right) is the “most expensive” of both handsets at around $20. The extra money gives you a 1.45 inches 128 x 128 color display, a FM radio, wallpapers and all the same features as the Vodafone 150. The new handsets — Vodafone 150 and 250 — will initially be sold in India, Turkey, Qatar, South Africa, Lesotho, Mozambique, Kenya, Tanzania, Ghana and Congo.

LiMo Foundation announced the launch of the first LiMo Release 2 (R2) handset that supports the brand new Vodafone 360 service with Samsung H1 (Vodafone 360 H1) and Samsung M1. The Vodafone 360 H1 by Samsung comes with a 3.5” WVGA AMOLED display, 16GB internal memory, 5 megapixel camera, WiFi and features including 720P HD video recording as well as exclusive Vodafone services. The Vodafone 360 service includes a universal contact list that integrates information from address books within various services, and a 3D zoom feature that enables users to browse through their latest interaction in chronological order. More details on Vodafone 360 including device and service specifications can be found through Vodafone at www.vodafone360.com.

The Vodafone 360 service is automatically backed up and synchronised, regularly and wirelessly, between the mobile and PC or Mac. All contacts updates, emails, photos and conversation history or settings changes made either at home or when on the move are saved, keeping all the content up-to-date.

“Vodafone 360 is the first service of its kind to offer customers the benefits of a truly integrated mobile internet experience that gathers all their contacts and content, all around them, in one place,” said Pieter Knook, Director of Internet Services at Vodafone Group.
