Verizon Wireless Stores Open Early on Friday for the Droid

Verizon Wireless’ stores will open early this Friday (Nov. 6) for the launch of Motorola Droid to the mass. Some stores will open at 7 a.m. and others at 8 a.m. You can check your local stores for their opening hours.

Also on Friday, Verizon Wireless will create a first-of-its-kind interactive experience in New York City called, “DROID Does Times Square.” This experience will let callers control two of Times Square’s largest digital billboards – the NASDAQ and Reuters signs - using only voice commands. Beginning Nov. 6, Internet fans worldwide can also view the experience in real-time by visiting www.droiddoes.com/timessquare.

DROID by Motorola will be available for $199.99 with a new two-year customer agreement after a $100 mail-in rebate.

Need more Android smartphones from Verizon Wireless? The HTC Droid Eris is rumored to be launched on November 6th as the second Android smartphone line up for Verizon Wireless subscribers in US. There is no official announcement yet but here are more live photos of the 5 megapixel touch screen phone on phonearena. The low cost Android smartphone is expected to be priced at $99 with 2-years service contract and after the mail-in-rebate.

We’ve just finished a sit-down session with Verizon, Motorola and Google to discuss the first Android 2.0 smartphone of the year, the Verizon DROID by Motorola, and this is certainly one very impressive smartphone. Verizon Wireless Droid from Motorola Officially Announced

Together with the upcoming Android 2.0 Eclair, Verizon Wireless Droid by Motorola will become the first Android 2.0 smartphone that will be available in US from November 6th. The Motorola Droid comes with a 5 megapixel camera, dual flash LED, WiFi, GPS and 3.7-inch capacitive touch screen with 16millions colors. The “Droid” will eventually get expanded with more Android smartphones for Verizon Wireless, which could be the Droid Eris from HTC.

DROID by Motorola will be available in the United States on Friday, Nov. 6, for $199.99 with a new two-year customer agreement after a $100 mail-in rebate. Verizon Wireless is also bundling the Droid by Motorola with a 16GB microSD card for your file storage.

Verizon Wireless Releasing Blackberry Storm 9530 Updates

Said to be go live on 25th or 26th, Verizon Wireless is releasing Blackberry Storm 9530 software updates through its website (www.verizonwireless.com/storm) and also your blackberry desktop manager. The software updates is fixing tons of bugs and will also include enhancements to existing application. Check out the change log below.

BlackBerry Storm – MR3 (5.0) Software Release

Software Version: 5.0.0 Release 508(OS 4.2.0.128 / Applications 5.0.0.328)
Significant improvements in rotation detection and screen painting have been introduced in this software.
Device displayed a white bar at the bottom of the screen after a rotation event.
When setting a custom SMS tone for a single contact, this tone may playback unexpectedly for SMS’ received from other contacts.
When swiping down the virtual keyboard in an MMS message the send and save draft icons did not appear as expected.
When viewing an SMS there was no simple way to call the current user. Now the user can select the number from the Callback Number field or from the message body and call that number from the pop up menu.
The delete prior function has the unwanted side-effect of triggering the compose email screen.
The user cannot configure their profile settings to increase the number of alerts when being notified of an event such as incoming SMS or email.
Previous software versions did not allow the user to increase the count of notifications (i.e. Beep 5 times when when I get an email and beep 3 times when I get an sms). In this software, this is now allowed with counts from 1-10.
When trying to set a home screen background of a certain resolution (more specifically a resolution matching either the width or the height of the native resolution of the LCD) it may have appeared as a black screen.
When trying to edit/create a folder, the virtual keyboard did not render to allow the user to enter the names of said folders.
Intermittently, when streaming a video while doing a handover to 2G on a 3G network the video would stop playing.
If you paused a video recording and then resumed, the icon state may not have reflected the current recording state.
After recoding a video of a certain size (7M) the saved video may be corrupted and unplayable.
During manual network selection, the radio buttons associated with the networks did not render as expected.
When moving out of coverage your device display for no coverage may have been inconsistent.
During voice calls, your device may have reset on a rare occasion.
After viewing and accepting the End User Licensing Agreement of the App World application the application doesn’t startup (fixes introduced in the latest version of App World).
On some rare occasions, the device may reset on its own during a voice call or while idle.
During an MTP side load of 16GB of music, the device would leak memory and stop the transfer at ~75%.
During device full boot-up, the progress bar skips from 0% complete to ~66% complete instead of showing a gradual progression (Note: from 66% to 100% it does show a gradual progression).

Rumor: HTC Desire Going to Verizon Wireless as Droid Eris

With the HTC Desire first leaked in September, here comes its first leaked photo, going to Verizon Wireless as Droid Eris according to engadgetmobile. The Android smartphone is said to be listed as one of the Droid Series from Verizon Wireless. It cames with touch sensitive buttons below the touch screen, another 2 hardware buttons and track ball will be available too for navigation, call answering and call ending.

The Droid Eris is not going to be announced together with the Motorola Sholes / Motorola Droid on October 28th. According to the source it will be available from November 6th next month after Motorola Droid.

Apple has a cult following, and its product development and launch strategy is famously secretive, so the fact that your source is the lunch counter guy across the block from the Hon Hai factory in Taiwan won’t be discovered (or may even be considered authoritative!). New Motorola Droid / Sholes Runs On Android 2.0

Rumored to be announced by Verizon Wireless on October 30th, BoyGeniusReport has posted their Motorola Droid / Sholes hands on report. Other than a nice photo gallery and comment on the device, it is confirmed that Motorola Droid will comes with a new Android 2.0 version.

The Motorola Droid / Sholes used the same processor as iPhone 3GS and Palm Pre, the TI OMAP3430 CPU has made it one of the fastest Android devices to date, according to BGR. The capacitive touch screen is good and “amazing”, and its hardware keyboard is usable although it might be revised on the final prototype. The retail packaging of Droid will also include a docking station for convenient usb connection.

New Motorola Barrage Rugged Phone for Verizon Wireless

Verizon Wireless and Motorola has announced the Motorola Barrage last week. The rugged device sports a tough-as-nails exterior. Designed to be submersible for up to 30 minutes in one meter of water, it is constructed from chrome, glass, mesh and rubber – protecting it against blowing rain, humidity, solar radiation, high and low temperatures, blowing dust, salt fog, altitude, shock, vibration and transit drop.

Other than its rugged protection feature, the Motorola Barrage comes with a 2 megapixel camera, dual speaker and supports Verizon Wireless’ Push to Talk service that leverages the company’s Evolution-Data Optimized (EV-DO) Revision A (Rev. A) network.

The Motorola Barrage is available online now for $129.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate with a new two-year customer agreement. It will reach Verizon Wireless Communications Stores beginning Nov. 16. A non-camera version of the phone will be available on Oct. 21.
