Swype Beta for Android Gets A New Update

The Swype Beta new released is finally here. This time it comes with many features that will help you text even faster than it is. As a matter of fact, this is the 5th released of Swype Beta.

The new features that the new update provides are Double Tap to Edit, a way of tapping the word twice to bring up a word choice window, pick the correct word, and the cursor will automatically return to where you were before. Also, the new update have a Voice-to-text button, but you will need a Google Voice Search pre-integrated to use it.

Swype Android Beta Gets Update

Swype Beta upgrade for Android is now available. They has received a significantly large update for its users. It brings many improvement, especially on Speech to Text support, double tap to edit, and continued fixes to accuracy and test input.

Here is the full list of the upgrade capability:

* Resolved an accuracy issue that was introduced in the last Beta update. New software features supporting additional languages were included in the beta before the test plan for those features was complete (it is a beta after all). Subsequent testing identified the accuracy issue and corrections made. These new tests have been incorporated into our regression testing to prevent future accuracy issues.
* Added Double-Tap-to-Edit and Cursor Restore
* Added microphone button (QWERTY only. Requires Google Voice Search be pre-integrated in your phone’s ROM)
* Added French & EXPERIMENTAL Chinese Pinyin languages
* Modified new word priority defaults. The word-choice-window will now be ordered more intelligently when encountering custom dictionary words
* Fixed a bug where an extra space would be added when replacing a word by Swyping after opening the word choice window
* Improved the “Hidden-Word” dialog handling so it doesn’t show up as often (more improvements to this next time)
* Improved prediction when handling various path collisions
* Lots of minor bug fixes

Bada 1.2 Firmware Leaked for Samsung Wave S8500

Official Bada 1.2 firmware soon to be released on Samsung Wave S8500? A leaked firmware update was just popped out on SamsungFirmwareWorld, the software update has Bada 1.2 inside with a version of S8500XXJID.

No detail change log are available now, it looks like Swype has been included in this version and some users feel that the OS is more responsive after the S8500XXJID update. The new firmware installation required a third party tool. Although you can flash it on any S8500, this version is specific for Europe released. It is best for you to wait for the official roll out through the Samsung Kies software.

Swype for Symbian Up on Nokia Betalabs

Providing a fast text input with sliding action on the virtual keyboard, Swype is now offering a beta version of its input software for Symbian users (S60 5th edition). Currently it can be used with Nokia N97, N97mini, X6, 5800, and 5230.

How Fast Can You Text This Sentence for Guinness World Record

If you have a fast finger in texting, you can try to finish this sentence to break the latest Guinness World Record of 35.54 seconds. The sentence, “The razor-toothed piranhas of the genera Serrasalmus and Pygocentrus are the most ferocious freshwater fish in the world. In reality they seldom attack a human” has just been done in 35.54 seconds by Franklin Page, a recent employee of Swype and resident of Seattle, WA using a Samsung Omnia II and Swype input software.

The new Guinness World Record was judged by Stuart Claxton, an official Guinness World Records adjudicator. In conjunction with the new record, Samsung Mobile shot a TV commercial for the Samsung Omnia II featuring Page and Claxton.

Motorola CLIQ XT and HTC HD2 Available This Month for T-Mobile USA

When a phone gets officially released, we feel like it’s a little bit like Christmas. Even if we don’t necessarily get to wake up in the morning and find a brand new phone waiting for us under a tree, the sentiment is still there. Thankfully, March is a busy month, as today marks the release of Motorola’s upgraded CLIQ, and in just over a week, we’ll get to finally hold an HTC HD2 with a US-based wireless carrier. Like we said, March is a busy, busy month.

The Motorola CLIQ XT is the latest hardware running Motorola’s MOTOBLUR User Interface. It’s still running atop the Android mobile Operating System, with Android 1.5 (yes, yes, we know…). It’s got a 3.1-inch HVGA touchscreen with a 320×480 capacitive panel. The camera on the back is of the 5MP variety, and it’s got autofocus. This is not the device you’re looking for if you’re in the market for a high-end device; it’s meant more for a mid-range, social media intensive individual. You can pick up the device right now from T-Mobile USA stores, as well as online, for just $129.99 with a qualifying voice and data plan. Of course, we recommend you check out the review, first, before you go jump the gun.

And then, we have the heavy hitter. The HTC HD2 is a marvel in almost every way, with its considerable screens size (4.3″), the 1GHz Snapdragon processor under the hood, and the powerful Sense User Interface laid out over Windows Mobile 6.5. It’s coming with a lot of extra features, packed neatly on the device even before you pick it up, in the form of Blockbuster Mobile. The HD2, as much as we’d love to have it in our hands right now, is coming out on March 24th, so try to remain on the edge of your seat just a little bit longer, okay? You can pick it up from stores then, or order it online if you want, for just $199.99 on a new contract, with a qualifying voice and data plan.

What’s also great, is that the Swype keyboard, which allows you to trace a line from one letter to the next to spell a word, is also bundled with both devices. T-Mobile is pushing the new software keyboard, and for good reason: it’s fantastic. There’s a bit of a learning curve, but it’s definitely worth learning.

Swype Beta for Android Open for Public

Announced for T-Mobile USA users previously, Android users can now sign up for Swype in a beta version. The beta version is not for those who already have Swype pre-installed. It supports English and Spanish but comes in limited features as some key features required OEM integration according to Swype. Check out the detail here.

SWYPE – New Text Input Software for Touch Screen

Swype has just been unveiled at the TechCrunch50 event this week. Created by Dr. Cliff Kushler, the co-inventor of the T9 predictive text technology, Swype aims to provide you a faster and easier way to input text on any touch screen.

With one continuous finger or stylus motion across the screen keyboard, the patented technology enables users to input words faster and easier than other data input methods-at over 50 words per minute according to the company. The application is designed to work across a variety of devices such as phones, tablets, game consoles, kiosks, televisions, virtual screens and more.

“The iPhone phenomenon has created a huge demand in the marketplace for touch screen devices and now we are launching a new technology that will allow handset and other screen manufacturers to design and produce products that are sleeker, more reliable and better performing than those with traditional text-entry options,” said Mike McSherry, CEO of Swype. “Swype is set to revolutionize the way we communicate by making it easier and faster for users to input information on any screen.”
