AT&T has announced plans to work with TerreStar Networks to offer an integrated smartphone mobility solution that will combine primary cellular wireless connectivity with the ability to connect to a satellite network as a backup, using one phone number and one smartphone device.

Just found a post about an unique phone which "could work literally anywhere on earth, without worrying about coverage limits". Produced by a little known company called Elektrobit, its design strangely looks so much like the BlackBerry Bold or a Motorola MOTO Q.

Optus is set to deliver a larger choice of mobile handsets to people in the bush by partnering with Thuraya Telecommunications (Thuraya). Optus will retail two of Thuraya's new mobile handsets - a Satellite Only and GSM/Satellite dual mode handset.

EB and TerreStar Networks has done their first dual-mode satellite-terrestrial HSPA reference design handset in a PDA form factor. The slim smartphone will allow users to seamlessly and securely stay connected to both the satellite and terrestrial components of the TerreStar network.
