It hasn’t been too long since we saw some official screenshots of Sagem’s official PUMA phone, the solar powered touchscreen phone, themed to the very depths with PUMA-esque details. And, just a few short months later, it looks like the device has finally managed to clear the FCC, with photos taken of the endeavor for good measure. But, it’s missing a few key features that makes a US release date anywhere before that stated early 2011 very unlikely.

But, if you’re in Europe, Sagem is sticking to their story that the device will be available on Vodafone and Orange by the second week of May, so that’s not too far away at all. So, what would you be getting if you do pick up this eco-friendly handset? Well, you’d be getting a 2.8-inch capacitive touchscreen device, with a 3.2MP camera on the back, along with that ever-popular solar panel. And, just in case you get bored with regular touchscreens, Sagem has included Dylan, a digital Puma on the inside of your phone that reacts to the taps of your fingers on the screen.

As for what it’s missing during its arduous trek through the FCC, that would be US 3G of any kind. But, with it clearing the FCC, that means you can import the device if you so desire. But, we can imagine that’s going to get pretty expensive, considering you’ve got a digital pet to play around with. Now, how cool is that?

About one year ago Sagem and Porsche Design launched their first P9521 luxury phone, which is a clam shell phone selling at around 1200 euro. Sagem and Porsche Design has recently introduced their second phone called P9522, a full touch screen phone in candy bar form factor.

The new Sagem Porsche Design P’9522 featuring a 5 megapixel camera, comes with built in WiFi for wireless internet access and GPS for map navigation and geotagging your photos. The 2.8-inch full touch screen is powered by Sagem’s Touch UI. Instead of using the touch screen for text input, you can use the physical numeric keypad below the screen. A fingerprint scanner is embeded nicely between the display screen and numeric keypad. You can add a security protection with the fingerprint scanner to prevent unauthorized access to your data.

Although it will be sold at around 600 euro, half of its first Sagem Porsche Design phone, it will only connect to GPRS/EDGE network. The company believes that the built in WiFi is enough for users who need mobile internet access.

Purple Labs has signed a memorandum of understanding to acquire the mobile applications suite and software engineering team of Sagem Mobiles, a French manufacturer that develops mobile phones branded by Sony Ericsson, Orange, Vodafone and other customers. The asset sale to Purple Labs is linked to an announcement by SAFRAN, a French technology group, that it is selling its Sagem Mobiles business unit to Sofinnova Partners. SAFRAN will join Sofinnova as a shareholder in the new entity, which will be called Sagem Wireless.

Purple Labs and Sagem Wireless also agreed to enter into a multi-year license and development agreement, whereby Purple Labs will provide Sagem Wireless with all of the application software for its products, and all of the software for its future 3G Linux devices based on LiMo Foundation requirements.

Both deals are expected to close by the end of this year, subject to the approval of employee representative bodies. Based in Chambéry, France, Purple Labs is funded by three European venture capital firms: Sofinnova Partners, Earlybird Venture Capital, and Partners Group.
