Heroes creator to launch new project through Nokia’s Ovi Store

Tim Kring, creator and executive producer of HEROES, has confirmed to develop new content for the Ovi Store. Nokia has signed on as a strategic partner and technology enabler for the project, Code named TEVA. Kring will be utilizing Nokia’s Ovi Store as an initial channel to bring the project to an engaged audience while developing it across other mediums. Nokia and Kring will launch the first mobile phase of the project in the Summer of ‘09 and rolled out regionally.

“Tim Kring is a Hollywood visionary and masterful storyteller who truly understands that the reach of the Ovi Store is a powerful way for millions of people around the world to experience the new forms of entertainment he is seeking to create,” said Tero Ojanperä, executive vice president, Nokia Services. “The Ovi Store will rely on great content partners, a compelling, relevant consumer experience and access to millions of Nokia devices to become an important new entertainment distribution platform.”

Ojanperä and Kring will take the stage at Web 2.0 in San Francisco on April 1 to talk with web and mobile application developers about what Ovi Store means for content providers as a distribution opportunity. In addition, Niklas Savander, executive vice president, Nokia Services, will address the entertainment industy at MIPTV in Cannes, France on April 1 to deliver additional details about the working relationship. Simultaneously, George Linardos, vice president, Nokia Services will attend CTIA in Las Vegas to speak with the wireless industry about Kring and the Ovi Store.

Qik Joins Ovi Store, Integrates with Nokia Ovi Share

Qik has confirmed that its video streaming application will be available on Nokia’s Ovi Store. With the live streaming application, users will be able to cross-post their Qik videos automatically to Nokia’s Ovi Share service. Qik lets anyone easily stream live video from their handset, sharing their moments in real-time with selected friends and family or the entire world. More than three dozen Nokia handsets are Qik-compatible, from mass market feature phones to elite smartphones.

Ovi Share is the online service that allows users to share photos and videos, from their PC, Mac or straight from their camera phone with one easy step. Users can share content with anyone – no sign-up or membership is required for recipients to view the photos or videos that have been shared with them.

Qikkers can share their Qik content directly from their handsets – the first such Share on Ovi integration to offer such easy cross-posting of live mobile videos. Videos can be uploaded automatically from their device without users having to manually send them via the phone or website. 300 million Nokia’s Ovi users are coming!

Sounds a very very optimistic: Nokia targets its Services & Software business –which are planned to reside under the Ovi umbrella brand– to have 300 million unique services users by 2012.

Ovi is the gateway to Nokia’s Internet services, including the Nokia Music Store, Nokia Maps, and N-Gage games. It also be an open door to web communities, enabling people to access their content, communities and contacts from a compatible Nokia device or from a PC.

Nokia to Demonstrate New Ovi Functionality Today

In an online event later today Nokia will demonstrate the new personal information management (PIM) sync functionality of Ovi.com, as well as the recently launched Nokia Ovi Suite for PC and the Files on Ovi remote-access service. These different elements of Ovi help you manage your personal information and media in various ways through a simple and unified interface.

The latest version of Ovi.com, which is now available as a public beta, offers free functionality for syncing your calendar, contacts, notes and tasks between a Nokia mobile device and www.ovi.com. With this functionality Ovi.com users can now create an online backup of their important information that they can access and edit anytime when connected to the internet.

With the Nokia Ovi Suite for PC application you can easily copy files and information from your Nokia mobile device to your computer; back up the contents of your Nokia device; and drag-and-drop photos and videos to Share on Ovi, the media sharing service Nokia launched earlier this year.

Files on Ovi allows you to remotely access the files on your internet-connected personal computers from any browser-enabled mobile phone or computer. You can also store files online in your Anytime Files personal storage area so that they are always accessible to you. The service is based on the software and expertise Nokia obtained through the acquisition of Avvenu in December 2007.

Adobe, the maker of the world’s famous Photoshop software just unveiled that its Photoshop.com service goes in a mobile Beta in September and will initially support selected Windows Mobile smartphones. Adobe Photoshop.com Mobile will allow you to upload, view, and share your photos online from your phone. All you need is a supported Windows Mobile phone and your Photoshop.com account ID. Have Photoshop.com Mobile upload photos from your phone to your Photoshop.com account as soon as you take them. You can store up to 5 GB of photos there free. (Photoshop.com Plus members even get 20 GB of free storage).
