The world’s most powerful smartphone packs the power and capabilities of a PC in your pocket through Motorola’s revolutionary webtop application

Jan. 06, 2011

Basingstoke, U.K. – Jan. 6, 2011 – Motorola Mobility, Inc. (NYSE: MMI), and Orange UK today announced Motorola ATRIX™, which unleashes the power of the smartphone like never before. Motorola’s revolutionary webtop application makes Motorola ATRIX the only smartphone to carry the power of mobile computing inside your pocket. Designed to bring unprecedented computing capabilities to your smartphone, Motorola’s webtop application runs a full Mozilla Firefox 3.6 browser and supports Adobe® Flash® Player to open up all the rich graphics, animations and video on the web. Motorola ATRIX includes a dual core processor with each core running at 1 GHz, delivering up to two GHz of processing power, and 1 GB of RAM. Put simply, Motorola ATRIX is the world’s most powerful smartphone.

“We want to empower individuals, giving them new ways to stay connected, informed and entertained at home, on the job and anywhere in between,” said Andrew Morley, vice president of marketing for Motorola Mobility, EMARA. “We are finding that consumers are increasingly using smartphones as their primary digital screens.
Motorola ATRIX is designed to essentially become a user’s primary digital hub to create, edit and enjoy documents, media and content. This is facilitated by Motorola’s webtop application and by the optional Motorola HD Multimedia Dock and Motorola Laptop Dock that provide users with a larger screen, keyboard and trackpad – enabling an enhanced and more interactive experience with their devices.

While in webtop, users are given a window into the smartphone that enables access to all of the device’s functionality within Android. Calls continue uninterrupted if Motorola ATRIX is removed from a dock. Plus, the new Entertainment Centre feature lets you show all of the photos, music and videos you already enjoy on-the-go on a big screen in your living room.

Motorola ATRIX provides consumers with instantaneous access to all their emails, files and media. While using the webtop application, business customers will benefit from the Citrix Receiver application for complete access to commercial desktop-licensed software.
Key features and specifications:

* A dual core processor capable of opening web pages twice as fast as most other smartphones, rendering games faster and displaying HD video on big-screen TVs
* A full 1 GB of RAM for twice the RAM of most smartphones to deliver effortless multi-tasking, such as watching a movie while receiving and responding to email

Orange today announced the first major advancement in UK mobile voice calling for 20 years with the launch of mobile High Definition (HD) Voice. Providing crystal clear sound quality for calls, mobile users will see the service set a new consumer benchmark, with today’s move testament to Orange’s continuing focus on innovation.
HD Voice offers a proven improvement in the sound quality of traditional mobile voice calls. The service eliminates the distance between friends, relatives and colleagues to make callers voices sound like they do when communicating face to face. Reducing the background noise, hisses and crackles of normal mobile calls, HD Voice also excels in noisy environments, so whether you’re at a football match or concert, on a building site or next to heavy traffic – HD Voice gives louder, clearer, sharper mobile calls. This will come as a relief for a third (32%) of Brits who blame background noise including road works or noisy chatty friends as the biggest disturbance in conversations*.

Orange HD Voice is available at no extra cost to all Orange mobile customers who take a HD Voice enabled handset. From launch, new variants of the Nokia 5230, Nokia X6, Nokia E5 and Samsung Omnia Pro will be HD Voice enabled with further manufactures expected to offer HD handsets in the coming months. All HD Voice enabled handsets will be labelled with the Orange HD Voice logo, helping customers to easily recognise those devices that support the new Orange HD Voice service. HD Voice demonstration units will also be available in Orange shops.

Tom Alexander, Chief Executive of Everything Everywhere, the company which runs Orange UK, said: “Although what we use our mobile handsets for has evolved significantly in the past few years – the way we make mobile calls hasn’t changed a great deal since the 1990s. So we’re proud to be the first telecommunications brand in the UK to change this and offer customers a revolutionary new calling experience. With mobile HD Voice – hearing really is believing”.

HD Voice also opens up new opportunities for better ways of working in business. The arrival of HD Voice is hotly anticipated by the broadcasting industry, which believes that the service could reduce its reliance on expensive ISDN lines and the need to ferry guests to studios for interviews. Other industries that will benefit significantly from HD Voice include those with significant background noise like the construction and manufacturing industries.

No arguments: there’s some handsets out there that just don’t work all that well when placed in the sunlight. It’s just a fact of life now-a-days, as unfortunate as it may be. That’s why we’re happy to have wireless carriers like Orange, who know exactly what to do. Give us a mobile phone visor! A big one, too! Because we all know that while the World Cup is going on, you don’t want to watch it from the comfort of your own home, on a screen that’s (hopefully) bigger than your phone’s.

Apparently, Orange UK is only going to make a few of these bad boys. We’re not exactly sure if you could call them a collectible item just yet, but maybe in time. However, the carrier’s covering all the bases. If you don’t happen to get one in your hands from the “official” manufacturer, you can check out Orange UK’s website, and they’ll actually show you how to make one. Yes, your own DIY project for the weekend, just in time for the next week of World Cup games.

Anyone over the pond want this? We know we do, and we’re almost a day apart from our favorite world-class sport’s games. And if you do happen to go to the website and make one for yourself, please take a picture and show us. That may just brighten our day (maybe even our week).

While Orange UK have already confirmed that the HTC Desire would be coming in a different shade than brown in the previous months, it’s always good to see some confirmation before an official launch. This time around, Orange UK has gone ahead and let everyone know that the black HTC Desire is definitely making its way to their network. Additionally, the Samsung Monte has also shown up for the ride.

We’ll start with the Samsung Monte. This handset has a 3-inch touchscreen, and it rocks Samsung’s proprietary TouchWiz 2.0 User Interface. It has a 3.5mm audio jack, so you can plug in your own headphones, and it is capable of HSDPA speeds. There’s also a 3.2MP camera on the back. It’s also got GPS and WiFi for good measure, along with support for a MicroSD card. Unfortunately, there’s no word on pricing, or an actual availability date. Just coming soon.

And then there’s the HTC Desire in black. It’s the exact same device in every other way except the aesthetic alterations. It’s still rocking the 3.7-inch AMOLED display, Bluetooth support, aGPS support, and that 5MP camera on the back. Plus, don’t forget the 1GHz Snapdragon processor under the hood, powering Android 2.1 with HTC’s Sense UI skinning it. All together, it’s a great phone, and we’re sure the new color will attract quite a few people. It’s probably going to be free, just like the brown version, on the appropriate Orange UK plan. So, no need to save up the big bucks (at least, not right off the bat). It’s listed as coming soon, too, with no word on available dates. But, of course, we’ll keep you posted.

Featuring over 5,000 applications, games, ringtones and wallpapers, Orange has launched its Application Shop for multi-platform on a wide range of handsets. Anything in the shop can be downloaded and purchased on one Orange mobile bill, so you do not need to pre-register and use their personal credit cards.

Yves Tyrode, EVP of Orange Technocentre says, “We are giving customers a tailor-made shop window on the mobile that makes it easier to discover, download, use and manage content. Whether it’s a Smartphone user, or someone using a simpler device, we know the demand for content is there – it’s just about getting that experience right. That is why we want to give everyone with a phone in their hand the easiest access to personal content, on the most suitable device and tariff, to help them take the parts of the mobile Internet that they know and love, everywhere they go.”

The service is already available, initially providing the Orange App Shop ‘over-the-air’ to more than one million customers in France and the UK . In coming January, Orange devices including the Nokia 6700, Sony Ericsson W995 and the Sony Ericsson Yari U100i (France only) will be preloaded with the App Shop and sold in the UK and France. Later, this will also include Samsung, LG, HTC, Motorola and RIM handsets.

Throughout 2010, Orange will continue to roll-out the App Shop service across its footprint, extending it to Spain, Poland, Romania, Switzerland, Slovakia, Belgium, Austria, Moldova and Portugal. In each country, Orange is making the App Shop relevant by providing localised content in the catalogue that best meets specific market needs.
