There’s something to be said about a phone manufacturer that, up until now, probably wasn’t very well known for being the phone manufacturer behind some popular handsets. For example, the T-Mobile Pulse, which is an Android device currently available for carriers like T-Mobile Hungary, is manufactured by the company. But all that’s about to change, as the OEM is getting ready to launch their very own branded hardware. Unfortunately, it’s missing quite a few features that might make it noticeable to some folks out there.

For example, there’s no word on what the software is quite yet. It’s a basic phone, though, even if it does feature a touchscreen. It’s also got a 1.3MP camera on the back, and an integrated FM radio for your listening pleasure. As for the G7002′s stand-out feature? That’d be its battery life, as the tech-specs page proclaims that the battery will last you upwards of 12 and a half days on stand-by.

The G7002 will be making its way to O2 UK coming up very soon, and will only be £40 on a pay-as-you-go plan. We don’t know if this is a “good enough” phone for someone looking for their next handset, but it is a pretty remarkable moment for Huawei, as they step into the future with their first-ever self-branded device. Good on them.

O2 has today announced My O2 for iPhone, an app designed to help make viewing the amount customers spend their phones even easier. The app is now available as a free download on the Apple App Store.

The My O2 section of O2’s website gives comprehensive information on every part of a customer’s account and could already be accessed via SMS and online, however the new My O2 app takes this information and makes it available in a way specifically tailored for the iPhone.

Using the My O2 app, both O2 Pay & Go and Pay Monthly iPhone customers will be able to securely see their tariff details, a summary of their inclusive allowance and how much remains, their latest bill and any Bolt Ons on their account.

“Our customers want to stay in control of how much they spend whenever they like. The My O2 iPhone app allows them to do this with the minimum of fuss,” said Sally Cowdry, Marketing Director for O2. “We wanted to make this information as easy to view as possible. This is all part of our commitment to a great customer experience and we’ll be looking at rolling this out to other phones in the near future.”

O2 today announces an agreement with Twitter which will allow O2 customers to receive SMS alerts from Twitter for free from August. The Twitter deal allows O2 customers to receive tweets from chosen friends, @mentions, and direct messages via SMS. They can also send and reply to tweets by text which will come from their bundle or be charged at the standard network rate.

“We believe that mobile will soon become the most popular way of accessing social networking sites, giving real time access to tweets and status updates wherever you are,” said Antony Douglas, Head of Content at O2. “The agreements we now have in place with Twitter and the other key sites brings this a step closer, making it quick and easy for O2 customers to access their favourite social networks straight from their mobile.”

The agreement with O2 in the UK will form a framework for future agreements between Twitter and Telefónica operations globally.

The new Connection Manager software upgrade will also see the addition of a data counter, enabling users to monitor and control their data consumption more easily. The data counter will provide accurate usage information for individual sessions and link through to an overall usage page. To add extra peace-of-mind for consumers, an automatic notification will be sent to the Connection Manager when 75%, 90% and 100% of their data allowance has been reached.
