Using the dual lens camera on the LG Optimus 3D, you can capture 3D photos as well as record 3D videos. So where can you share them? LG and YouTube today announced a partnership for a video sharing service. Users of Optimus 3D can upload their 3D videos to YouTube directly from the phone to share with friends and family.

The uploaded videos will retain the 3D property. It is not sure if you need proper supported equipment to watch the 3D videos on YouTube. Of course, unless you have the LG Optimus 3D, you can enjoy the 3D content without 3D glasses.

The LG Optimus 3D will be available in Europe early Q2 this year.

Press release

Barcelona, Feb. 14, 2011 — LG Electronics (LG) and YouTube are taking a major step forward today by announcing a partnership to provide a unique 3D mobile experience to users. LG’s upcoming Android-powered premium smartphones will enable users not only to capture and view 3D videos without glasses, but also to upload and share them instantly with others via YouTube.

“The Optimus 3D is LG’s newest flagship smartphone. It is our answer to two major pain points of the current 3D experience – limited mobility and specialized glasses. Furthermore, our partnership with YouTube will ensure that our customers can easily generate and access ample 3D content,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company.

The new partnership is part of a broader push into 3D entertainment by LG and the world’s largest online video community. YouTube and LG collaborated to enable the delivery and sharing of 3D video onto mobile devices in a way that makes it simple and easy for consumers.

“3D technology has traditionally been reserved for the major Hollywood movie studios,” said Francsico Varela, Head of YouTube Platform Partnerships“With the new LG Optimus 3D anyone anywhere in the world can shoot 3D videos, upload them to YouTube and share them with their friends. We’re excited to see the creative videos our community captures and shares with this new technology.”

Powered by a unique “Tri-Dual” Configuration — dual-core, simultaneous dual-channel and dual-memory, LG’s advanced Optimus 3D will be unveiled at the 2011 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona and will be the first mobile device capable of providing the YouTube 3D experience. The Android-powered Optimus 3D will be available globally starting in Europe early in the second quarter of 2011.

For more information, visit the LG stand at 8B178 in Hall 8 at Mobile World Congress in Fira de Barcelona from February 14 to 17 or go to the online newsroom at www.lgnewsroom.com/MWC2011.

United Airlines has introduced mobile check-in and mobile boarding passes, enabling customers on the go to check in using a mobile phone or Web-enabled mobile device and proceed through security and boarding without needing to present a paper boarding pass.

Customers flying on any United or United Express-operated flight within the United States, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands may check in at the new mobile.united.com beginning 24 hours before departure. Mobile check-in is especially helpful to customers in hotels or in business meetings who want to check in before arriving at the airport.

United’s additional mobile boarding pass feature is available to customers departing from the airline’s five hubs ? Chicago O’Hare International Airport, Denver International Airport, Los Angeles International Airport, San Francisco International Airport, and Washington Dulles International Airport ? and from airports in Dallas-Fort Worth, Las Vegas, New York LaGuardia, Orlando, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Portland, Ore., and Seattle. United plans to introduce mobile boarding passes at additional airports, including in Atlanta, Baltimore, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Salt Lake City and Orange County-Santa Ana, in the coming weeks.

After checking in at mobile.united.com, customers can receive an email link to access a mobile boarding pass that includes a two-dimensional barcode. The barcode can be scanned at airport security checkpoints and at the gate during boarding. A refresh of the mobile boarding pass will reflect any changes to seat assignments, gate changes and upgrade confirmations.

“Mobile check-in and paperless boarding give our customers more choice and control over their travel experience,” said Cindy Szadokierski, vice president of airport operations planning and United Express. “These options enable travelers to have greater flexibility and efficiency in their travel day, particularly as we enter the busy spring break travel season, where thousands of additional customers will pass through airports every day.”

Chevrolet and OnStar unveiled its smartphone application that will allow Chevrolet Volt owners 24/7 connection and control of vehicle functions and OnStar features remotely. OnStar’s Mobile Application allows drivers to communicate with their Volt from Droid by Motorola, Apple iPhone and Blackberry Storm smartphones. It uses a real-time data connection to perform tasks from setting the charge time to unlocking the doors.

The Chevrolet Volt OnStar smartphone application is designed to enhance the overall Volt ownership experience with interaction and control never offered before on any electric vehicle. The application:

displays charge status – plugged in or not, and voltage (120V or 240V)

provides flexibility to “Charge Now” or schedule charge timing

displays percentage of battery charge level, electric and total ranges

allows owner to manually set grid-friendly charge mode for off-peak times when electricity rates are lowest

sends text or email notifications for charge reminders, interruptions and full charge

displays miles per gallon, electric only miles, and odometer readings

shows miles per gallon, EV miles and miles driven for last trip and lifetime

remotely start the vehicle to pre-condition the interior temperature

When a charge command is activated, the Volt owner will receive a confirmation message on the application alerting the owner that a command has been successfully sent to the vehicle. If in view of the Volt, a green LED charge light on the dash will indicate the charge state.

Traditional OnStar features such as door lock, unlock and remote horn and lights – which have typically been accessible only through a call into the OnStar call center – will now be available via the application.

Demonstration applications for the Motorola Droid and Blackberry Storm will be available at OnStarMobileDemo.com beginning 10 p.m., EST, January 5. The demonstration application for the Apple iPhone will be available on the iTunes store on January 6. Volt’s OnStar mobile application will also be available on a mobile browser for other internet-capable phones. Volt drivers can also view and manage vehicle systems and commands from the vehicle, the internet or through a monthly OnStar Vehicle Diagnostics e-mail.

The Volt is an electric vehicle with extended-range capability. It is designed to drive up to 40 miles on electricity without using gasoline or producing tailpipe emissions. When the Volt’s lithium-ion battery is depleted of energy, an engine/generator seamlessly operates to extend the total driving range to about 300 miles before refueling or stopping to recharge the battery.

Samsung has announced the commercial availability of its 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) dongle in Sweden and Norway. TeliaSonera begins offering commercial Samsung LTE dongles (Model Name: GT-B3710) for customers in Stockholm, Sweden and in Oslo, Norway. The introduction of the commercial dongle follows the announcement in October about TeliaSonera’s selection of Samsung as its 4G device provider.

Customers in Sweden and Norway can now enjoy maximum download speeds of 100 Mbps in 4G, which is ten times faster than the speed of the current ‘Turbo 3G’ service. TeliaSonera’s LTE service is the world’s first commercialization and will open up new possibilities for customers to enjoy the benefits of high-speed data service on their laptops, such as advanced web TV broadcasting, online gaming and web conferencing.

Samsung’s LTE dongle (Model name: GT-B3710) can be connected to a laptop computer or other portable devices via USB. The dongle incorporates Samsung’s in-house developed LTE modem chip, branded Kalmia, and supports 2.6GHz band for LTE service. Samsung’s LTE solution is fully compliant with the latest 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) LTE Release 8 (Rel-8) standard. Samsung will provide an updated version of USB dongle, which offers backward compatibility to LTE, HSPA, and EDGE service, in the first half of 2010.

TeliaSonera has three nation wide 4G/LTE licenses; in Sweden, Norway and also recently in Finland. The network roll out is in progress to offer 4G to Sweden’s and Norway’s largest cities.
