ACCESS announced NetFront Browser v4.0, the latest version of NetFront Browser for mobile handsets and Internet-enabled devices. The new version has improved the JavaScript executions time, with up to twenty times faster than ACCESS’ NetFront Browser v3.52.

The NetFront Browser v4.0 API application and porting layers are compatible with those of NetFront Browser v3.5, so device manufacturers using NetFront Browser v3.5 can easily upgrade to take advantage of super fast JavaScript engine in NetFront Browser v4.0, making it possible to leverage customized applications with minimal additional investment.

ACCESS will make a concept version of NetFront Browser v4.0 for Windows Mobile available for free download for a limited time. In addition to the Windows Mobile version, ACCESS also plans to provide NetFront Browser v4.0 for major mobile operating systems and Internet-enabled devices to improve Internet access and use.

“The more users and companies come to depend on cloud computing, the more important web application performance and web JavaScript execution become,” said Tomihisa Kamada, president, CEO and co-founder of ACCESS. “NetFront delivers not only an exceptionally fast mobile browsing experience, but also a mobile cloud computing experience that is fluid and truly useful. ACCESS will continue to improve and extend our technologies to bring users around the world a faster, easier and more enjoyable Internet experience.”

Opera Mobile 10 beta2 has got an upgrade this week for Windows Mobile and Symbian/S60 phones, including several updates aimed at improving the user experience. Localization for Hebrew and Arabic-speaking regions was prioritized in the Windows Mobile version, and native keyboard integration is a key feature of the S60 version.

“With each of our beta releases, we put users first. Their needs are our first priority, which is why it was important for us to add bi-directional language support and the ability to input native characters, such as Chinese, into the browser,” said Jon von Tetzchner, CEO, Opera Software. “There are millions of Hebrew, Arabic and Chinese speakers out there, and we want to make sure that Opera works seamlessly for them, allowing them to surf the Web within the comforts of their native language.”

Check out a list of the improved features for respective Mobile OS below

Opera Mobile 10 beta 2 for Windows Mobile touchscreen phones

Support for Hebrew and Arabic Web sites. Right-to-left rendering now works on Opera Mobile 10.

Faster loading. When the Opera icon is pressed, watch out for even faster loading of the browser.

Increased auto-rotation support. More phones now support auto-rotation.

Opera Mobile 10 beta 2 for Symbian/S60

Native keyboard input integration. Users are now able to use their default keyboards to input characters, allowing users to write in their native languages when searching on Google or writing an e-mail, for example.

Opera Software today released Opera Mini 5 beta, the newest update from the previous version 4.2. The new version has got its user interface revamped, additional Speed Dial bookmarks and tabs. You can now download the beta version directly from your mobile phone or from your PC here.

“In our own research, we have learned that the number-one reason people use Opera Mini is because it is easy — easy to use the Web you know. The idea of navigating the vastness of the Web from such a small screen can be a daunting leap, which is why we have long committed to make the browsing experience you are familiar with from your PC, easy to do on your mobile phone,” said Jon von Tetzchner, CEO, Opera Software. “With new, sleek navigation buttons, tabbed browsing and Speed Dial bookmarks, you are never more than a click away from where you want to go on the Web.”

List of new features:

Tabbed browsing - Allow users to browser several sites simultaneously.

Touchscreen or keypad browsing

Password manager

Speed Dial

Skyfire today announces an updates to its web browser, bringing version 1.1 to both Symbian and Windows Mobile smartphones. The new version will improve the performance, especially the speed improvement on the scrolling and zooming. The new version is available at http://get.skyfire.com (at this time I am still getting v1.0 cab from the site)

Check the change log below of the version 1.1.0.13041 for Symbian and version 1.1.0.13052 for Windows Mobile

Improved page load times.

Improved scrolling and zooming on Symbian.

Improved reconnect. Skyfire will show clearly when you can start interacting with the web page in case it previously timed out and disconnected (to save battery life).

WML support. If you are browsing to mobile sites that use the old mobile WML markup, you can now view the content.

Improved mobile website support.

Page up/down navigation via short-key: You can use now ‘2’ and ‘8’ to easily navigate one page up or down. Great for reading articles. Now the short-key for invoking the Superbar is *.

Updated Plug-ins: For Flash, Silverlight and QuickTime we have the newest versions to give you more compatibility with more sites.

Skyfire quits on startup on Windows Mobile 6.5 devices: It affected a limited number of 6.0 and 6.1 devices as well. (Fixed Issue 7369)

Multi-line text entry behavior on Symbian: This was an issue when you exited text entry mode with predictive text on, or used the navigation keys. (Fixed Issues 7149 & 7112)

Superbar state on Symbian: Cancel button did not always exit from Superbar. (Fixed Issue 7156)

Samsung Propel and Jack (AT&T): Could not uninstall Skyfire if the SIM card was missing. Fixed.

Short-keys inconsistent on non-standard keyboard. On some keyboard layouts (half-qwerty, dual keyboards), the short-keys do not work as expected. (Issue 7498, 7408, 7581)
