Over 10-Million LG Cookie Phones Consumed Worldwide

LG announced today that the massively popular LG Cookie (LG KP500) touchphone has shipped more than 10-million units since its launch in November 2008. The LG Cookie has been popular across a broad group of consumers since its debut, selling over five million units in Europe, two million in Latin America and two million in Asia. The phone has sold at a rate of over one million units every month this year and LG is expecting demand to increase approaching the holidays.

“We are pleased that the LG Cookie was able to reach the benchmark of 10-million shipments in a short period of time,” said Dr. Skott Ahn, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “The sales record adds credence to our philosophy of studying consumer demands and offering a full touchphone that balances premium features with sleek design. LG will continue to shape the future by delivering products and technologies to satisfy the tastes and expectations of our consumers.”

LG is expecting the Cookie to continue to record steady sales like the LG Chocolate and LG Shine phones. Based on the huge success of the LG Cookie, the company plans to roll out a successor with updated features in early 2010.

5 Millions LG Cookie Sold in Nine Months

LG announced today that more than five million LG-KP500 “Cookie” mobile phones have been snapped up worldwide since its launch nine months ago. As a slim and lightweight handset, LG’s Cookie is fully equipped with most of the key features found in premium full touch screen phones, including a 3.0 megapixel camera, 3D accelerometer and an Active Flash User Interface with vivid widget icons to provide easy access to commonly used functions.

“Achieving five million units in sales in only nine months is proof that we’re on track with our goal to make Cookie a phone that’s loved by everyone,” said Dr. Skott Ahn, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “Our strategy to provide a full touch screen phone at an affordable price has succeeded beyond our original expectations. If the current trend continues, we expect to see Cookie hit sales of 10 million by the end of this year.”

LG has also expanded its offering by 10 new colors in addition to the original four — black, Vandyke brown, anodized silver and elegant gold — available at the phone’s launch.

Available since October 2008, LG announced today that its affordable full touchscreen handset, LG Cookie (LG-KP500), recorded over two million unit sales worldwide. More than 1.2 million gourmets have had a taste of LG Cookie in Europe, and 600,000 Cookies have been sold in Asia and the emerging markets, including Latin America. In Korea, LG Cookie is currently the most popular handset with 100,000 units in accumulated sales as of March this year and record one-day sales of 4,500 units. The company plans to expand Cookie’s availability from 40 to 60 countries as part of its push to hit 10 million in sales worldwide.

With its slim 11.9 mm body, the phone was originally released in four delicious colors including Black, Vandyke Brown, Anodizing Silver, and Elegant Gold. The line-up has now been expanded to ten different colors. LG plans to bake more Cookies with even more color options to match a variety of personal tastes.
