LG Announced Optimus LTE

On Tuesday, LG has officially announced the Optimus LTE. The handset will first launch in South Korea. It will comes with a 4.5-inch display “True HD IPS Display” accompany by 1280 x 720-pixel resolution.

The Optimus LTE features 20GB of storage, a dual-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz, 1GB of RAM, an 8-megapixel camera, a front-facing 1.3-megapixel camera for video chat, and a 1,830 mAh battery. It runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread. LG CEO and President Dr. Jong-seok Park said, “Our goal is to be a leading player in LTE devices by continuously offering best-in-class products based on our LTE patents and knowhow.”

LG LAUNCHES OPTIMUS LTE, FIRST 4G HD SMARTPHONE IN KOREAN MARKET

SEOUL, Oct. 4, 2011 – LG Electronics (LG) today announced the Korean market
launch of LG Optimus LTE, the first mobile device in the country to offer 4G
connectivity with the highest resolution IPS display available on a smartphone.
Developed in close collaboration with sister company LG Display, Optimus LTE
features a striking 4.5–inch “True HD IPS” display which offers advanced resolution,
brightness and clarity and shows colors in their most natural tones, as they were meant
to be seen.

Optimus LTE also delivers enhanced performance with 1.5 GHz dual-core processor,
running on the Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS platform. With a large 1,830 mAh battery,
Optimus LTE is perfectly suited for multimedia usage. In addition, the device enables
content sharing seamlessly through HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) and
DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance).

Korea’s Digital Media Broadcast Service Goes 2.0 with LG Cafe

While DMB (Digital Media Broadcast) service has been running for years in Korea, the service will evolve to DMB 2.0 so that it could interact with the viewer. The new LG-SU420 (LG Cafe) is one of the first DMB 2.0 multimedia phone. It comes with a 3.2-inch WVGA touch screen, built in WiFi, GPS, microSD card slot and 3 megapixel camera.

Other than watching TV program via wireless broadcast, the DMB 2.0 can also be used for web surfing, receive info update services and mobile shopping. SK Telecom and LG will start offering the LG Cafe this week.

Samsung Korea Announces Haptic 8M W740 Camera Phone

Featuring a 8 megapixel camera, Samsung has released its new camera phone, the Haptic 8M SCH-W740 in Korea this week. The model is using the TouchWiz UI, there is haptic feedback for each touch input on the 3.3-inch touch screen.

Interestingly, there is a new software called Face-Tagging pre-installed on the phone. The software will identify people in the photos by matching the contact profile photo. You can then select to send text message or call the person from the photo gallery. The 8 megapixel camera is supported by a Xenon flash module and able to do auto focusing and smile detection.

Other than the HSPA 3G chipset, the new Haptic 8M is also a T-DMB digital TV phone for receiving media broadcast on the go. The phone is available in Korea for about $660 USD without service contract.

Citibank Korea launched mobile banking for foreigners

Noticed that banking system in South Korea is quite easy. Opening a local bank account, for instance, is pretty simple whether you are a foreigner or not. And now, Citibank Korea (one of a few exceptional banks that have experience with foreign clients, besides Korea Exchange Bank, Woori Bank, and Hana Bank) launches another easyness: by offering VM mobile banking service in English.

Citibank had opened its first branch in Korea in 1967, and was born newly as Citibank Korea Inc. (CKI) through integration with KorAm Bank in 2004.

Available for most cell phones equipped for wireless Internet (initially being setup for SK Telecom and KTF subscribers, and then for LG Telecom users), the existing users of CKI Internet banking need to download its software. The application enables you to use various banking services such as transfer/inquiry, FX rate inquiry, loan inquiry and GIRO payment, as well as credit card inquiry and CA service.

According to a recent research, although the global economy has been slowing down since second half of this year, there is a strong optimism that the market will go growing in the coming year. The mobile market is predicted to grow to 308.1 trillion won (about US$ 220 billion), a 6.7% higher than this year.

BlackBerry Bold is coming to South Korean this month

RIM and its local counterpart, SK Telecom, will deliver BlackBerry Bold 9000 for corporate users this month (most likely will come this December 29). It’s a really good timing since the local government has approved new mobile regulation standard that allows foreign handsets like BlackBerry and iPhone to be offered in the country.

South Korea introduces number portability for Internet call

Korea Communications Commission (KCC) has decided to approve the number portability system, allowing fixed-line telephone users to switch to Internet phone while retaining their home phone numbers. It means South Koreans now able to make Internet calls without changing numbers.

According to the KCC, the introduction of new system was expedited through various efforts including support for the construction of location system for emergency calls and settlement of disagreement among operators.

This decision is likely to promote the use of Internet phone service in the country.

New Pantech IM-R300 Touch Screen Phone for SK Telecom

Pantech and SK Telecom will start selling the new IM-R300 touch screen phone in Korea this week. As usual, the IM-R300 will support the T-DMB media broadcast service with its 2.6-inch WQVGA display screen (240 x 400 pixels). Other than T-DMB, it has built in GPS receiver and users can subscribe to the T-Map service in Korea for GPS navigation.

With a phone body at 51 x 102 x 13.9 mm, the touch screen phone allows you to use with a stylus, alternatively you can also use the keypad by sliding up the screen. Other features include a 2 megapixel camera, microSD card slot, 260MB internal memory, e-wallet, HSDPA and available in black/white colors. Check out more photos at next page.

Express Yourself Through the New Neon Sign Phone

Sky in Korea has launched a new “Neon Sign” clamshell phone with HSDPA support. Available this week in Korea, it has 49 LEDs on the front panel which can display different icons depends on the notification you set.

Supporting T-DMB, WCDMA global roaming and video telephony, the Neon Sign phone also comes with a 2 megapixel camera, mp3 player, electronic dictionary, text viewer and multitasking functionality. It will be available in white, sky blue, pink and black for about 400 – 500 USD.

Samsung Launched Inner Zoom SCH-W480 in Korea

Better than Sony Ericsson 8.1 megapixel phone? Samsung has just launched the Inner Zoom SCH-W480 slider phone in Korea. The slider phone is shaped like a digital camera, it comes with a 5-megapixel CCD camera, together with a 3x optical inner zoom lens.

With a Inner Zoom lens design, the camera lens do not extend out and is able to keep the phone thickness minimum. It also supports auto-focus and face detection. Other than a nice optical zoom camera lens, it can also do 7.2 Mbps HSDPA, WCDMA/GSM global roaming, Bluetooth, media player and accept microSD memory card.

Motorola Z8m with 7.2 Mbps Available in Korea
