VERTU to launch Club VERTU Services in Japan

VERTU is set to launch an exclusive Club in Japan that will allow discerning subscribers access to a host of exclusive mobile services including ‘Club VERTU’ which includes a special members-only concierge. VERTU has contracted Nokia Siemens Networks with this landmark Managed Services deal for the rollout of the hosted MVNO solution.

“Meeting the needs of customers in this segment requires a specialised approach. VERTU users the world over are discerning individuals who are willing to pay a premium for the right experience. Our success relies on delivering a world class experience that is unmatched”, says Tagore Ramoutar, Director of Business Development for Japan & Korea, at VERTU. “Our greatest priority therefore is providing our customers with new and innovative services, and we will focus our energies on this”, he added.

Vertu has signed an MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) deal with NTT docomo to provide communication services to Vertu customers. In the second quarter of 2009, Vertu will start to provide the VERTU Club premium membership services with NTT docomo. First Vertu store is scheduled to be opened in Ginza on 19 February 2009,

Yeah, it’s not easy to understand Japan’s mobile market habit. Even the big boy like Nokia should give-up and decided to cease sales there, due to very tiny part amount of their market share. The only Finn company’s product that will stay in the Rising Sun country is the luxurious Vertu.

Japan is the fourth largest market in the world, after United States, China, and India. With over 109 million subscribers, that’s count 85% of total population, there is little room to grow for “outsider” like Nokia.

NBC Universal announced branded mobile portal in Japan

NBC Universal has launched of its new mobile portal in Japan. The portal goes live recently to coincide with the theatrical run, in Japan, of the major blockbuster movie ‘Wanted’ starring Angelina Jolie, James McAvoy and Morgan Freeman.

Customers of the three operators — NTT Docomo, KDDI-au and SoftBank Mobile — will be able to download a variety of mobile content, including themes, tones, decoration emails, made-for mobile comics, flash and casual games.

NBC Universal will distribute and market its content and services under the ‘Universal Mobile’ brand. The service will allow access to content from a number of NBC Universal film and TV properties.

Samsung Omnia Going Japan with Integrated Mobile TV and Red Color

Softbank Mobile in Japan announces Samsung Omnia, the Windows Mobile pocket pc phone is going to be sold in Japan as 930SC and comes with higher resolution (480 x 800) and additional feature. Although only the 8GB Samsung Omnia will be available, the 930SC will have built in mobile TV receiver to enjoy One-Seg media broadcast service. One-Seg mobile phones also support a full suite of digital TV functions, such as reception of data broadcasts that provide information on the current TV program, the ability to check program content via the EPG (electronic program guide), and TV program recording.

The Samsung Omnia 930SC will be available in Black, White and Red color, which is not available in other regions.

It’s a cool software for Japanese iPhone users. iPhone Central posted about the announcement of Japanese 1.0 for iPhone and iPod touch. User can purchase and download from the App Store for $19.99. Japanese requires an iPhone or iPod touch running iPhone 2.0 software.

Designed as a Japanese language aid for those learning Japanese and those who need to speak it, Japanese features more than 127,000 entries. It works offline, and lets you browse through the vocabulary or search through an entry.

Entries are then displayed in their Japanese form along with a romanized transcription, to aid users who are not already familiar with Hiragana/Katakana. Verbs, adjectives and counters are displayed along with their conjoined forms. Entries are grouped into lists like “economics,” “food” and “sport” to make them easy to find.
