Skype Update Let iPhone 3G to do Video-Calling

Yesterday, the mobile Skype application have limited features and do not support the video-calling like its desktop counterpart. Skype released their newest update on iPhone and iPod. It improve several things including adding video-calling on the iPhone 4 which allows video calls on either WiFi and or 3G network connections.

The iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and 4th Gen iPod touch owners will be able to do two-ways calling features to other devices or even to Skype desktop users with the new update. Unfortunately, the iPad and 3rd Gen iPod touch can only receive video. The following list is the improvements that have been made by Skype latest update.

• Make Skype to Skype video calls on WiFi and 3G*

• Call Skype desktop users (Mac OS X or Windows) and other iPhone users.

• Two-way video calls supported on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 4th gen.

• Receive only video supported on iPad and iPod touch 3rd gen, with no camera.

• Make video calls in portrait and landscape.

• Skype video calling requires iOS 4.0 or above.

iPhone 3G Goes Free via Best Buy Mobile On December 10th

Best Buy Mobile will be offering iPhone 3G for free. This offered applies only on Friday, December 10th. The validity for iPhone 3G applied for both additional lines and also qualified upgrades.

It appears that all Best Buy stores will have inventory in stock to fulfill all the demand for the promotion. The iPhone 3G comes with an instant rebate, no waiting time needed to get the additional discount

Untrasn0w Worked on iOS 4.2.1 For iPhone

MuscleNerd, the dev-team member tweeted that his team has managed to tweaked their ultrasn0w iPhone unlocking tool to working on Apple’s latest mobile iOS 4.2.1. Ultrasn0w currently only available for iPhone 3G/3GS handsets with a baseband of 05.15.04. The iPhone 4 is not included in this case.

Apple iOS 4.1 Now Available To Download

Apple mention at their recent music event that iOS 4.1 will be coming this week. Fortunately, they kept their words and it’s arrived on schedule. iOS 4 is now available to download.

As usual, the updates fixes all the error and bugs. The main thing is iOS 4.1 fixes the sensor problem on iPhone 4. Also, it improves the aging iPhone 3G, the Game Center app can select devices, and iPhone 4 will be able to take High Dynamic Range photos. iOS 4.1 is a great relief for iPhone 4 users.

Verizon’s BlackBerry Curve 3G 9330 Launching September 16th

A few days ago, we received news regarding the launching of the Curve in two variation colors. Sadly, there are no further information concerning the release date. But, thank to Boy Genius Report’ info, we do know that the BlackBerry Curve 3G 9330 will launch on September 16th.

Many are questioning about the Curve 3G existence but isn’t this just the same case as iPhone 3G? Surely, iPhone know that they will have to release iPhone 4G sooner or later but they still push the iPhone 3G because they sure know that the device is popular enough to attract many customers attention. This is just the same case, the Curve is pretty popular device. Many BlackBerry users are interested in this device no matter what people said.

Apple iPhone 3G 8GB Officially Out of Stock, Probably Won’t be Refilled

There had been some talk about the future of the iPhone 3G 8GB model; or, perhaps more accurately, what little future it had left. Word had it that the device was actually running out of stock, quickly, and that there weren’t any plans for anyone to request more of it. When AT&T tried to at the end of May, they were denied by Apple, and subsequently so were many other third party retailers. So, we considered the iPhone 3G a finished product, and the iPhone HD was all but guaranteed (as if it weren’t already). Now, looks like the model is all but sold out.

AT&T says that the model is completely sold out. An AT&T representative says that, “we do not know when more iPhone 3G 8GB will arrive,” which basically tells us that it’s not coming back. And, for all intents and purposes, why should it? After all, the new model’s coming, in perhaps less than a month, so there’s no reason to keep stocking the current middle-child of the line-up.

The iPhone 3GS will probably drop to $99 some time in the near future, which will give the iPhone HD plenty of room to get inserted into the family. We’ll have to wait and see how much it costs once it’s announced, but there’s plenty of bets on the lowest model being somewhere near $199 right out of the gate.

Apple Will Not Support the iPhone 2G

So far, early adopters of the original iPhone have been pretty lucky. Up until the third annual major release from the Cupertino-based company, the first generation iPhone has been happily supported. But all of that is about to change, according to the one and only, Steve Jobs himself, with the launch of iPhone OS 4.0. That’s right, he’s back to replying to randomly sent emails, and all from the comfort of his very own iPhone. And this time, he’s delivering some bad news.

Actually, it’s only bad news if you’re someone who hasn’t upgraded, or bought a new iPhone outright, since the original released. According to Steve Jobs, after he was asked if the iPhone 2G would be supported any longer, his answer was no. But, thankfully, he said he was sorry, before he shot down any hope of the original iPhone getting any support from this point on.

This is obviously expected. The iPhone 2G isn’t the best of the best, anymore, and it’s time that the device be let go, so that it can finally fade away into history. Technology progresses at such an insane pace, it’s incredible that Apple has found a way to make it make sense in today’s industry. But, Apple realizes the user experience is the most important element, and applying an update that would ruin that experience isn’t worth it. So, it looks like it’s time to upgrade, folks. And, from the sounds of it, you might want to skip the iPhone 3G, too.

Power A Creates iPhone Universal Remote Case for Infrared Control

Power A today announced the release of the “Universal Remote Case”, designed specifically for the Apple iPhone 3GS and the iPhone 3G. The lightweight protective case features an integrated infrared (IR) transmitter. When paired with a POWER A free app available on the App Store, the case will enable consumers to use their iPhone as a fully functional universal remote to control most IR-capable devices. The protection case is available now with a price of $59.99.

The Universal Remote Case communicates with the iPhone via a free app (search the App Store for “POWER A Universal Remote”). The app enables consumers to record commands from any IR remote control. For example, to program a standard TV remote into the POWER A Universal Remote, simply point the TV remote at the iPhone, press a button on the POWER A Universal Remote App screen (i.e., “Volume Up”), and then press the corresponding “Volume Up” button on the TV remote. The app for the Universal Remote Case can also be customized to control multiple devices from a single screen (i.e., buttons from a TV, DVD, and stereo remote can be consolidated into one “virtual” remote).

Rumor: Real Multitasking for iPhone Coming with OS 4.0

While you can expect to see the new Apple Tablet to be announced next week on January 27th, latest rumor has included a possible iPhone OS 4.0 announcement as well. The iPhone OS 4.0 is said to have “many” graphical and user interface changes, but the most important add-on will be the official multitasking support from Apple. However, the new version will not be offered to the first generation iPhone 2G and can only applied to iPhone 3G and 3GS. Vodafone too, Offering iPhone in UK and Ireland

Vodafone today has announced that it will also offer the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS to UK and Ireland, bringing it the third official iPhone provider in Q1 2010. Pricing, tariffs and availability information is not available yet, but this will definitely benefits the consumers with more competition among O2, Orange and Vodafone.
