Apple Sells Over One Million iPhone 3GS Models

Apple today announced that it has sold over one million iPhone 3GS models through Sunday, June 21, the third day after its launch. In addition, six million customers have downloaded the new iPhone 3.0 software in the first five days since its release.

The new iPhone 3GS packed with new features including improved speed and performance – up to twice as fast as iPhone 3G with longer battery life, 3 megapixel autofocus camera, video recording and hands free voice control.

O2 UK Start Selling iPhone 3G S Tomorrow

O2 today announced that the new iPhone 3G S handset will go on general sale from 8.02am on Friday 19 June in O2, Apple and Carphone Warehouse retail stores. The iPhone 3G S will be available from free on a variety of 18 and 24 month Pay Monthly tariffs with unlimited UK web browsing on the O2 network and Wi-Fi. It will also be available on Pay & Go with unlimited UK web browsing and Wi-Fi for the first 12 months.

“The iPhone continues to be a phenomenal device with over a million O2 customers owning one. The combination of the new software update available to all and the new range of iPhone 3G S devices allows us to continue to differentiate O2 in the marketplace.” said Ronan Dunne, CEO of O2 in the UK. “

AT&T Wi-Fi Supports Auto-Authentication on New iPhone OS 3.0

AT&T today announced it will support auto-authentication for iPhone OS 3.0 users connecting to AT&T Wi-Fi Hot Spots. Auto-authentication allows iPhone users to seamlessly switch from AT&T’s 3G network to an AT&T Wi-Fi Hot Spot without being prompted.

The new process eliminates the previous two-step authentication, making it easier and faster for iPhone customers to connect to AT&T Wi-Fi. Auto-connect is established once a customer connects their iPhone to an AT&T Wi-Fi Hot Spot the first time.

The new auto-authentication process is available starting today to all existing iPhone and iPhone 3G customers who download the free iPhone OS 3.0 software update via iTunes. It will also be available to all iPhone 3G S customers once that product goes on sale on June 19. Meanwhile, all iPhone customers can continue to get AT&T Wi-Fi access with the current authentication process.

iPhone OS 3.0 Unlocking Tool Available This Friday

While iPhone OS 3.0 will be released this week to the current iPhone users, iPhone Dev Team has promised to release an unlock tool called ultrasn0w this Friday. It is unsure that if ultrasn0w can be used on the new iPhone 3G S, the team should be able to do further testing when the 3G S is available. iPhone 3G S Shipment Reaching Users Earlier

For those users in US who have ordered the iPhone 3G S, you might get the iPhone 3G S shipment earliest by tomorrow (June-17th) according to someone who notified engadgetmobile on his tracking detail. AT&T has start to accept pre-orders last week, and has planned to start selling the iPhone 3G S in its retail stores from June 19th.

Updates 1: More users are reporting the same notification received, however, some users have noticed changes to delivery date to June-18th instead of June-17th.

iPhone 3G S Running on 600 MHz Processor?

At the WWDC 2009 event, the cpu specs for the iPhone 3G S was not revealed in detail although it is said to have a improved speed compare to iPhone 3G. T-Mobile Netherlands has accidentally put up the CPU info on its website, stating a 600MHz processor with 256MB RAM.

Both the first iPhone and iPhone 3G powered by a 412MHz cpu and only have a 128MB RAM. The new iPhone 3Gs will be available in 2 version. It will be sold in US (AT&T), Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland and UK from June 19th, with 16GB version priced at $199 and 32GB version priced at $299.

AT&T Accepts iPhone 3G S Pre-order Today

AT&T announced it will offer the new Apple iPhone 3G S in its retail and online stores beginning June 19. In addition, the company today will begin selling iPhone 3G starting at $99 for new and qualifying subscribers. iPhone 3G S will cost $199 (16GB) and $299 (32GB) for new and qualifying customers. Prices above require a 2-year service commitment and approved voice and data plan. Options are available to purchase these phones without a 2-year contract commitment.

Customers may preorder iPhone 3G S beginning at approximately 5 p.m. ET today at in AT&T’s more than 2,200 company-owned retail locations or later this evening at www.att.com/iphone. Stores will open early at 7 a.m. on June 19 exclusively for customers who have preordered.
