Obama camp releases iPhone app

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama’s campaign team has released an application for iPhone users. The free application is available for download through the App Store. The application works with iPhone 3G, the original iPhone, and iPod touch. This application requires iPhone 2.0 Software Update.

What makes the Obama ‘08 iPhone application unique, according to Ars Technica, is the dream team behind it. The volunteers include author and programmer Mike Lee; former Yahoo!, Apple, VMware, and Tapulous engineer Tristan O’Tierney; designer Louie Mantia; Jonathan Wight of Toxic Software fame, and iPhone Dev Camp I and II organizers Dom Sagolla and Raven Zachary.

Still in beta 3 version, the upcoming iPhone firmware 2.0 will allow you to save images from its safari browser and email client.

iPhonebuzz Preview iPhone OS 2.0 Beta 3 (5A240d)

Vincent from iPhonebuzz has been testing iPhone OS 2.0 Beta 3 (5A240d) firmware with his iPhone for the past week. There are few improvements on the features, but most important is the iPhone is getting more stable with the new firmware.

I’ve been testing out iPhone OS 2.0 beta 2 for about a week. I must say that I can tell a big difference in system stability immediately after installing firmware 5A240d! There are a few minor enhancements such as being able to save images while browsing a website to searching for contacts. That being said, I’m relieved that this release fixed a lot of bugs found in beta 2.

iPhone SDK Beta 2 – time to make things look good

The major addition that the second beta of the iPhone SDK brings is the Interface Builder. This nifty little tool will allow you to drag and drop in order to build the user interface for your application.

Tools like that make it on par with languages such as Visual Basic which make building new apps fast, easy, and convenient. Granted, using the drag and drop method may not give you the appearance you really want, but using it to complete a large portion of the code for you, and then changing the way things look a bit is a lot easier than trying to reinvent the wheel every time you write a new app.

Apple also added in some new sample code and updated the documentation that comes with the SDK. Sadly there isn’t a simple update option for the new SDK, you actually have to go get it yourself, but it’s still free. Apple is also still reported to be limiting access to the App Store and still limiting the participation in the $99 iPhone Dev Program.
