This new device architecture is compatible with roll-to-roll plastic circuits that can be combined with proprietary, electrically controllable “inks” to achieve print-like color performance, as well as transparency. Using a technology similar to color printing, HP is developing the capability to produce specific “ink” colors within the PANTONE MATCHING SYSTEM® range. The vibrant, print-quality colors have excellent visibility in direct sunlight and can electronically shift into a transparent state, revealing the surface below the eSkins film.

HP CloudPrint for BlackBerry smartphones is a web services based solution that allows users to print emails, documents, photos and web pages using a BlackBerry smartphone, wherever they are – in the office, at home or on the road.

The CloudPrint service enables mobile users to easily print to the nearest printer. The service is printer-agnostic and driverless and requires simple Internet access. HP and RIM plan to make CloudPrint available to BlackBerry Internet Service subscribers as well as BlackBerry Enterprise Server customers.

HP also is introducing software to centrally monitor and manage the extended BlackBerry solution ecosystem, whether it is virtual or physical. This ecosystem includes the BlackBerry Enterprise Server software, mail servers, databases, Microsoft® Active Directory and server operating systems such as Windows Server. Plans also include extending the capabilities of the monitoring solution to provide an end-to-end view of enterprise applications running on the BlackBerry platform.

HP Operations Manager for BlackBerry Enterprise Server correlates events from each part of the mobile ecosystem to help customers pinpoint potential issues and take corrective actions to remediate them. This single console reduces costs associated with monitoring multiple consoles and provides customers with a consolidated view into events, enabling them to manage performance and deliver optimal service levels for BlackBerry messaging services.

This software is designed to let customers easily print photos wherever there’s access to a wireless network and HP printers.

The company plans to show off iPrint Photo next month at both the Macworld Expo in San Francisco and the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.

Accoring to Darrell Walker, a software development engineer in HP’s Mac group, HP was exploring other opportunities to develop for the iPhone.

The new device will have a touchscreen and keypad and will use Microsoft Corp.’s Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system, say people briefed on the plan. It will be able to send and receive emails, and access the Internet.

The phone is the latest version of H-P’s iPaq devices. H-P, which has been selling iPaq-branded devices since it acquired personal-computer maker Compaq Computer Corp. in 2002, primarily focused earlier iPaqs on businesses and typically didn’t sell them through retail stores.

Hopefully, as WMPowerUser hopes, “the device will be the HP Oak, which looks pretty tasty, and hopefully the device is more polished and less buggy than the trouble-some HP 910c.”

Fellow PC manufacturers Dell and Acer have been hinting their own plans to enter the smartphone industry. Acer even has been confirmed to start its brand new smartphone debut in Q1 2009.
