Using a S60 phone? Google has announced a new Google Sync for S60 phones so that users can synchronize the Google Contacts and Calendars over-the-air easily. Check out the detail here

Google Sync offers two-way, over-the-air contacts and calendar synchronization. This means that you can make changes to your contacts and calendar on your phone or in your desktop Google account. Since Sync uses push technology, the changes should automatically appear within minutes. And your information is constantly syncing, so it’s up-to-date and securely stored within your Google account, even if you lose your phone.

Features

Synchronize your contacts. Get your Google contacts quickly and easily to your Nokia S60 phone. With Sync, you can have access to your address book at anytime and place that you need it.

Get calendar alerts. Using your Nokia’s native calendar, you can now access multiple Google calendars, and be alerted for upcoming appointments with sound or vibration.

Always in sync. Your calendar and contacts stay synchronized whether you access them from your Nokia or from your computer. Add or edit contacts or calendar entries right on your device or on your Google account on the web.

Earlier today Google announced Google Sync, which is made possible by a patent license they obtained from Microsoft covering Google’s implementation of the Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync protocol on Google servers. Microsoft recently announced an expansion of its Exchange ActiveSync Licensing Program, and licensees currently include partners and competitors Apple, Nokia, Palm, Samsung, and Sony Ericsson, among others.

Horacio Gutierrez, Deputy General Counsel and VP, Intellectual Property & Licensing, Microsoft: “Google’s licensing of these Microsoft patents relating to the Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync protocol is a clear acknowledgment of the innovation taking place at Microsoft. This agreement is also a great example of Microsoft’ s openness to generally license our patents under fair and reasonable terms so long as licensees respect Microsoft intellectual property. This open approach has been part of Microsoft’s IP licensing policy since 2003 and has resulted in over 500 licensing agreements of the last five years.”

Similar to Microsoft’s My Phone service, Google has announced Google Sync, available in Beta and support iPhone, Windows Mobile smartphone and SyncML compatible phones. Unlike My Phone service, Google Sync will only backup your phone contacts and calendar data with your Gmail account. Both your Gmail account and your mobile device will contain the same data after the synchronization.

According to the announcement

For iPhone and Windows Mobile devices, Google Sync allows you to get your Gmail Contacts and Google Calendar events to your phone. Once you set up Sync on your phone, it will automatically begin synchronizing your address book and calendar in the background, over-the-air, so you can attend to other tasks. Sync uses push technology so any changes or additions to your calendar or contacts are reflected on your device in minutes. The connection is always on so you don’t have to manually sync your phone after Sync has been set up. This means that when your colleague changes the time of the TPS report cover sheets meeting, you’ll know about it right away.

For devices that support the open SyncML protocol, Google Sync will allow for two-way contacts synchronization. If you’re a BlackBerry user, a version of Google Sync is already available.
