Earlier today Google announced Google Sync, which is made possible by a patent license they obtained from Microsoft covering Google's implementation of the Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync protocol on Google servers. Microsoft recently announced an expansion of its Exchange ActiveSync Licensing Program, and licensees currently include partners and competitors Apple, Nokia, Palm, Samsung, and Sony Ericsson, among others.

Similar to Microsoft's My Phone service, Google has announced Google Sync, available in Beta and support iPhone, Windows Mobile smartphone and SyncML compatible phones. Unlike My Phone service, Google Sync will only backup your phone contacts and calendar data with your Gmail account. Both your Gmail account and your mobile device will contain the same data after the synchronization.
