Google Mobile Search Now Supports Image Search on Android and iPhone

Google mobile team has just announced its new Image Search for for Android, iPhone, and iPod touch in the US, the UK, and Japan. Users in these three countries can search for images base on keywords, up to 20 images will be displayed on a single page. You can then either view a larger thumbnail, open the website link or view the image in its original size. There are also filtering options available to filter the image search results.

To try it yourself, go to google.com on your Android-powered device , iPhone, or iPod touch, and click on “Images” before doing your search.

Google SMS Channels: Send free SMS to your group

It’s an innovation from Google India. They just introduced a new product called Google SMS Channels that lets users subscribe to news alerts, blog updates and other kinds SMS text messages. You don’t really need a mobile phone to do it, as there’s an option that lets you can send SMS messages via the web itself.

This service currently works only with with phone numbers of India but will be available for international users soon. Great.

Google Maps for mobile Gets Street View Add-on

This week Google have released a new version of Google Maps for mobile, adding the “Street View” feature. You can see the actual photo of your search result, for example a restaurant, on your phone directly by clicking on the Street View link after you got the search result.

According to Google,

You can also launch Street View from any address where we have photography, or simply by clicking on the map and selecting “Street View”. You can browse Street View overlaid on the map or in full screen, rotate your view to see more of your surroundings, and move along the street.

Apart from the Street View add-on, the Google Maps for mobile is now works faster and more accurate on the location. Review links on a business are now also available from the Google maps, allow you to check for review easily. The newest Google Maps for mobile is available now for BlackBerry and many Java-enabled phones here. See a demonstration video below.

S60 & Windows Mobile Gets Google Maps for mobile with Transit directions

Google has just released an updated version of their Google Maps for mobile to version 2.2. The version 2.2 is available for Symbian S60 (3rd edition or later) and Windows Mobile (2005 or later). The new version has already been released to Blackberry devices and Java-based software, they are adding the Transit directions feature to even more mobile devices today.

The Transit Directions is not available for all the cities though, check out this page for the list of supported cities. According to the google blog post

Simply bring up Directions from the main menu and you’ll see a second tab labeled Transit (or Public Transport), where you can request a route using only public transportation. You’ll receive a number of alternatives that take you (car-free) to your destination.

To get this latest version of Google Maps for mobile with Transit, simply point your mobile browser to google.com/gmm

Google Mobile App for iPhone Available for US iPhone Users

With the released of new iPhone 3G and iPhone App store, Google has also released their first native iPhone application for iPhone and iPod touch. The Google Mobile App combines powerful Google services with a slick interface, so you can find what you’re looking for faster and more easily.

As soon you start typing in the text box, the Google Mobile App will start searching as you type . According to Google, the application will remember your hit history. Eventually your most frequently clicked results will be placed on the first place.

The Google Mobile App is currently available in US App store and will be also available in other countries soon.

Google Updated Mobile Search Home Page for Faster Access

Google team have announced an improvement on their mobile homepage, which allows you to load the mobile web page faster.

How do we do this? When you navigate to google.com in your browser, we cache the homepage on your phone. If you bookmark this homepage, then returning to Google using the bookmark is almost instantaneous. Whether you come to Google by browser or through our new search plug-in, starting your search is now quicker and simpler than ever before.

Together with the faster loading time, the team has also linked the iGoogle gadgets from the mobile home page. Check out the demonstration video below.
