TELUS Landing the Garmin nuvifone in June

Did you remember that AT&T launched their own version of the Garmin Nuvifone? Really, they did. And now T-Mobile is said to be getting an Android-based version of the same handset, which probably means it’ll at least sell better than the AT&T version. If they’ve figured out a way to make the User Interface (UI) better, that’d be a good first step in the right direction, at least. Now, as far as Canada goes, it looks like TELUS is going to be the carrier to land the phone made from a GPS company.

Apparently, the people that mattered up in Garmin-land knew that the AT&T version wasn’t the model they wanted to pass around the world, so rumors are saying that the version the Canadian wireless carrier will be getting is going to be much more like the T-Mobile USA version. So that means it will probably feature Android as well. It will also feature similar hardware specs to the AT&T model: 3.5-inch touchscreen display, 3MP camera on the back, and support for MicroSD card expansion.

As for the features, you can expect to find Garmin’s GPS navigation on the handset, along with WiFi and Bluetooth. There’s no word on how much it will cost. In fact, there’s no official word from either TELUS or Garmin about the consistency of these reports, but if they are indeed launching it in June, obviously we’ll be finding out very soon what the deal is.

Garmin Asus Nuvifone M10 Pre-Order Starts in Taiwan, Comes with Windows Mobile 6.5.3

Although mobile news has been hinting a Windows Mobile 6.6 showcase by Microsoft on the upcoming Mobile World Congress, Garmin Asus has started to accept customer pre-order in Taiwan for its new Garmin Asus M10. The new Nuvifone is confirmed to be using Windows Mobile 6.5.3, a new version that comes with a thinner task bar on top. Customers should expect to receive the M10 from Feb 6th next month.

Garmin Asus Nuvifone M10 has an attractive price of around 450 USD. The price is also bundled with an extra battery, or a car holder to be used for GPS navigation. It also offers a 3.5-inch WVGA resolution touch screen, 5 megapixel camera, built in WiFi, GPS, bluetooth, 3.5mm headphone jack, microSDHC card slot, 512MB RAM/512 MB ROM and Garmin GPS software with Taiwan map data. Garmin nuvifone G60 Going to AT&T on October 4

AT&T and Garmin announced the Garmin nüvifone G60 will be available beginning October 4 for AT&T customers in U.S. The quad-band GSM nüvifone G60 supports HSDPA wireless network, has built in WiFi, 3.55-inch touch screen and a 3 megapixel camera.

The nüvifone G60 has the same core features as a high-end Garmin nüvi and comes preloaded with maps and millions of points of interest (POI) for North America. Customers who purchase a nüvifone will have everything that they need to use the device as an in-car navigation unit including a dashboard and windshield mount.

Because the maps reside on the nüvifone customers always have access to navigation and they can receive turn-by-turn voice-prompted directions that speak street names to millions of destinations. If a turn is missed along the route, the nüvifone will automatically recalculate a route and get the user back on track.

The nüvifone G60 will be available in AT&T stores or at www.wireless.att.com on October 4 for $299 with a two year service agreement after $100 mail-in-rebate. Nüvifone Premium Connected Services which includes traffic updates, white pages, weather, movie, local events and fuel price content are available for $5.99/month after a 30-day trial.

Garmin Postpone Nuvifone to First Half of 2009

Supposed to be released in Q4 this year, Garmin has decided to postpone the Nuvifone to first half of 2009. According to the release, the company has to spend more time in meeting some carrier specific requirements. No specific date is given in their announcement.

The Garmin Nuvifone is a full touch screen phone with a 3.5-inch size display screen and pre-loaded maps for navigation. The last time we check on them during the CommunicAsia 2008 in June, the Nuvifone does have a solid software with responsive touch experience on top of the integrated Garmin navigation solution. Will they be facing more competition in year 2009 with more full touch screen joining the mobile devices family?

While this could be another good work of photoshop artist, Garmin Nuvifone in white is not impossible at all. The Garmin Nuvifone is a full touch screen phone with a 3.5-inch size display screen and pre-loaded maps for navigation.

Available in Q4 this year, the Nuvifone is suitable replacement navigation device especially for car driver. When the nüvifone is docked onto the vehicle mount, it automatically turns on the GPS, activates the navigation menu, and enables hands-free calling so that the user never misses a beat in the conversation and is able to begin routing to their destination with ease.
