fring Launched on Android Mobile Platform

fring today announces its release on Android platform, bringing mobile social services to Android smartphone users including Skype, MSN, GoogleTalk, ICQ, Twitter, Yahoo! and AIM. Centralized from one integrated contact list, fringsters also make calls to regular phone lines via Skype-Out and hundreds of popular SIP services over 3G, GPRS or Wi-Fi internet connection. The software can be downloaded via fring’s WAP site at m.fring.com or directly via the Android Market.

In addition to Android, fring is supported worldwide on thousands of Symbian S60, iPhone, iPod touch, Windows Mobile, J2ME and Linux devices.

Known Issues (Will be fixed in the next version):

- GSM contacts do not appear in fring’s buddy list on the Motorola DROID device
- Call disconnection tone may be heard a few times when terminating a call
- SIP and SkypeOut calls are not yet available on the Motorola DROID device

WeFi Introduces New Add-on for Fring

WeFi and fring today launched the WeFi add-on for fring that gives users mobile access to the largest database of 20 million Wi-Fi spots worldwide. The WeFi add-on currently works on hundreds of Symbian and Windows Mobile devices with the latest version of fring which. To locate and access millions of hotspots from these mobile devices, users simply select the WeFi add-on from the add-ons tab within fring. Users can locate their Wi-Fi hospot location automatically using their handset’s GPS capability, or manually by typing in any address worldwide.

fring Releases New Software Updates for Windows Mobile Version

fring has now released a new software updates for its Windows Mobile version. The new version is v3.34, packed with additional features like file transfer, receive gmail notification, improved add-ons, improved user interface and bug fixes. It can now also support the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 and Samsung Omnia.

With fring’s new file transfer feature, fringsters can swap music tracks, pictures, video clips and other files between each other, from mobile to mobile and mobile to PC quickly and reliably without the need for MMS, cable, Bluetooth, or Infrared connections. For HTC windows mobile users, support of earpiece has been implemented for you to make/receive VoIP calls with your headset.

Although the HTC Touch HD is not listed on the supported HTC devices, I was able to install and run the fring on my Touch HD in full screen mode using the Xperia X1 version. I have not tried all the supported services though, but twitter add-on works great on mine.

New fring 3.36 with Upgraded User Interface for Symbian

Fring has just released a new 3.36 version for Symbian 9 devices. The new version has an upgraded GUI for more user friendly navigation and structure. It also includes other bug fixes which is not mentioned in the announcement.

fring is a free, downloadable mobile phone application enabling free mVoIP (mobile VoIP) calls, real-time presence and live chat with multiple IM providers. fring users or “fringsters” mVoIP communicate with other fring users, landline or cellular phones using SkypeOut and SIP providers as well as PC contacts through Skype, Google Talk, MSN Messenger, Twitter and ICQ, all through one integrated contact list.

fring today became available for all Apple iPhone and iPod touchowners, enabling them to talk, chat and interact with other fring users (“fringsters”) and all of their online communities (Skype, MSN, Google Talk, ICQ, Twitter, Yahoo! & AIM) using their device’s internet connection. fring’s feature-rich application enables users to enjoy mobile instant messaging with their online buddies, regardless of whether their contacts are on mobile, PC or other internet device, and make cost effective mobile calls to them over WiFi.

Fring Introduces fringAdd-ons for More Handy Tools Add-on

Fring has released the very first fringAdd-ons, include a handy mobile version of social networks, video streaming and email notification applications directly from within fring.

Fring users, or fringsters can now get real-time updates to Facebook and Google’s social network orkut. With the help of Gmail notifier fringAdd-on, you will get alerts whenever there is new email. Lastly, the VTap will provide you a mobile video search and streaming service.

fring-Add-ons are completely free of charge to activate and are integrated into fring, complementing the existing communication features. To activate the new fringAdd-ons, fringsters simply need to subscribe to their selected fringAdd-ons from the new “Manage Add-ons” menu (Options>Settings>Manage Add-ons). Once selected, the fringAdd-on applications appear as familiar icons in the fringster’s Contact List. The “Manage Add-ons” menu will be continually updated and new fringAdd-ons will automatically appear in the Menu as they become available.

fringAdd-ons can be created under the recently released fringAPI by any web developer with a basic knowledge of XML/PHP , by visiting the developer zone at developers.fring.com. Third party developers will be able to publish their completed Add-ons to the new fring catalogue within a few weeks.

fring releases API and shares mobile-internet freedom

fring today released the fringAPI, which enables third-party web-developers using XML and JavaScript to bring the fring community new mobile applications and mobile versions of web-based applications, providing access to fring client GUI with web browser extensions and basic phone functions.

New Fring 3.35 version for Symbian 9

fring pre-releases mobile VoIP over WiFi application for iPhone

fring today enable iPhone users to talk, chat and interact with other fring users (“fringsters”) using their iPhone’s WiFi connection. A light, sneak preview R&D version of the mobile VoIP application, developed in conjunction with the Holon Institute of Technology academic research labs in Israel, is now available for use on the iPhone from www.fring.com/fring_is/fringcubator.

The special pre-release version will enable iPhone users to get an early taste of fring and discover the freedom of being able to take their fring contacts and buddies from their other online communities mobile on their iPhones. They will also have the ability to make free and low cost mobile calls over WiFi.
