Firefox Mobile Browser Fennec for Android Available in Pre-Alpha Release

Pre-alpha version of the Firefox mobile browser, Fennec, is now available for Android smartphone users. The development team has put up an announcement on a blog post and tested the pre-alpha release with Motorola Droid and Nexus One. According to vladimir, this version is not expected to be running smoothly. It is still required to be further optimized and has to be installed in to internal memory directly. Mozilla Releases Fennec Web Browser for HTC Touch Pro

Mozilla has announced their first milestone release of Fenned mobile web browser, it is currently available for Windows Mobile and can only be installed on HTC Touch Pro. Fenned for Touch Pro can be downloaded here, expect to see some errors with this pre-alpha release.

Firefox Mobile Fennec Web Browser Coming Soon to HTC Touch Pro

With the firefox mobile browser hits Alpha 2 last month, Mozilla might finally release an updated version for HTC Touch Pro for the first time. The mobile browser has a codename called Fennec, is currently available for Nokia N810 Internet Tablets only.

Mozilla development team has posted the following note on the Mozilla wiki, which stated that,

We are targeting a Milestone release for the first week of February, targeting the HTC touch pro.

We are two patches away from the meta goal of building from trunk. The tools changes have review from dougt, and are waiting for review from ted, who has promised review by the end of the week. NSPR changes are waiting for review from Nelson, who asked for and received a patch against NSPR trunk

Firefox Mobile browser hits Alpha 2, still for Nokia N810 only

Mozilla has released Alpha 2 of its mobile web browser called Fennec that is available for the OS2008 (“Maemo”) software platforms that runs on the Nokia N810 Internet Tablets. (Yes, you can also take it for a test spin on Windows, OS X , and Linux computers, according to Mozilla, “to give people who don’t have a Nokia Internet Tablet the ability to localize, experiment and build add-ons”).

According to their release notes, the main objectives of development was to add touch screen support and other features for mobile phones and other handheld devices.

Alpha 2 offers faster panning; faster zooming; improved responsiveness of pages loading; new content manipulation hooks for extension authors; look and feel improvements to improve usability

The new version also offers an easy navigation to Web content such as bookmarks (including tags), smart URL bar, tabbed browsing with thumbnail images, tntegrated Web search and easy access to multiple search engines.

Firefox Mobile Fennec Web Browser Screenshots Available

A few screenshots of the upcoming new mobile web browser, Firefox Fennec, are posted on Mozilla blog over the weekend. First alpha version of Firefox Fennec will be released soon within weeks, according to Mozilla last week. These application screenshots are taken with Fennec running on a Windows Mobile smartphone, the company has not confirmed if there will be a Symbian or BlackBerry version of Firefox Mobile in their plan.

Mozilla to Announce Firefox Mobile Alpha in a Few Weeks

Chief Executive of Mozilla, John Lilly has revealed in an interview that the company is ready to release Firefox Mobile in few weeks time. “We want to make sure that the Web on mobile is more like the Web than what the mobile industry offers today, which is closed, separate networks and not a very good information-getting experience for the user. The first thing is to bring Firefox to mobile devices. We’re working on that, and we’ll see some alphas in a few weeks.” said John Lilly.

This is not the first time we heard about Firefox Mobile and its developer might have already been working on the firefox mobile at least one year ago.
