Nokia E71 and E66 Get Free Ovi Maps Starting Right Now

Nokia has a lot of strong features. Like their music store-turned-Ovi-Music, and probably most importantly, Ovi Maps. Much like Google Maps with its Navigation option, the entire service is free. And that’s not for a limited time either. Ovi Maps also has a few key features that to some makes Ovi Maps even better than its Google competition. Luckily, those same features will also be made available to the E71 and E66.

Ovi Maps has been rolling out on new devices since January, starting with the E71 and reaching all the way to the X6. Nokia listens to its customers though, and there was some overwhelming desire from its customer base to get the service made available for the E71 and E66. Well, if you want to look at it from a release date standpoint from Ovi Maps free availability, then it didn’t take too long at all. The service is available to download right now.

Plus, customers will also be able to side-load maps from the Ovi Suite, so that they can download city/country/region maps for offline navigation. That’s right, you don’t have to be connected to your network to use Ovi Maps, as long as you’ve taken the necessary precautions. That means if you’re going hiking and Ovi Maps can serve you, go right ahead and do it. No worries about cell reception necessary. As was mentioned above, it’s all free, and that includes the download, so if you’ve got these two venerable devices, go for it! And as always, let us know what you think of the service. GLOBAL – You spoke, we listened: Free walk and drive navigation is now available for the Nokia E71 and Nokia E66. The latest version of Ovi Maps with free walk and drive navigation has been available on a range of devices such as the Nokia E72, Nokia N97 mini, and X6 since January. After listening to customer feedback though, the Ovi Maps team have now created a version that works on Nokia E71 and Nokia E66.

To enjoy free navigation with Ovi Maps on Nokia E71 and Nokia E66 devices, you should follow these simple steps:

1. Download the new Ovi Maps application from nokia.com/maps to your PC
2. Install the application using Ovi Suite to your device
3. Go to applications folder and start using Ovi Maps

Note to users: if users do not install the new Ovi Maps application, they will be prompted to pay the one year navigation license of 9.99 EUR if they start using the drive and walk navigation feature.

People will be able to use Ovi Suite to sideload the latest country maps onto their devices so they can enjoy offline map browsing alongside free navigation. The process of making the latest version of Ovi Maps available for existing devices is quite involved, but the team managed to include complete navigation functionality. Due to technical constraints in backporting the app to existing devices, it isn’t possible to offer further premium content such as Guide Michelin and Lonely Planet guides. These two devices will also be the last of our S60 3.1 and older devices to sport this version of Ovi Maps. But every upcoming Nokia smartphone will come with free walk and drive navigation out of the box.

These two Eseries devices join the recently compatible Nokia N86 8MP, which some users discovered earlier than anticipated. See below for a full list of compatible devices.

New Red and Black Nokia E71 Available Soon

Not available for sale yet, the Nokia Europe has put up new color options on its Nokia E71 product page. The flash banner now have red-silver and black color to change the product preview picture. It should be go on sale in Europe pretty soon.

Nokia E71 blessed with top honors in WIRED Magazine’s 2008 test issue

The Nokia E71 has won a top honor in WIRED Magazine’s test issue – the sleekly designed smartphone, packed with messaging, navigation and other great multimedia features, nabbed the ‘Test Best Cell Phone’ title in the November issue, on newsstands now. Additionally, the Nokia N82 was awarded the ‘Test Best Camera Phone’ accolade.

The Nokia E71 scored nine out of 10, with WIRED’s editors commenting, “The E71 is stocked with enough apps and goodies to keep even the most overworked road warrior on the ball, but it didn’t feel too “business.” That’s mostly due to the fact that the E71 has two separate customizable home screens. One is designed to house all of your work apps like Excel andPowerPoint while the other is geared more towards entertainment with programs for audio, video and gaming. Switching between the two is dead simple, a dedicated button at the top of the menu lets you toggle between the two screens instantly.

With support for corporate as well as personal email, two customizeable home screens, high speed data connectivity via 3G, HSDPA and WLAN networks, a 3.2 megapixel camera, A-GPS and Nokia Maps for navigation, a full HTML web browser with Flash support, and a digital audio and video player, the Nokia E71 is the only device you’ll need to carry whether at work or at play.

The Nokia N82 is a feature-rich device optimized for imaging with a 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, an impressive Xenon flash and on-device editing software Additionally, the Nokia N82 comes with A-GPS, WLAN 802.11b/g compatibility, personal information management (PIM) and a full HTML web browser with Flash support.

Rumor: Nokia E71 in White!

You have been reading lots of Nokia E71 rumors, but today will be a special one. Rafi has got the chance to test drive on the Nokia E71 and the unit he is playing with is in white skin design. Nokia E71 should be announced officially really soon, according to a report by Reuters. Official press info is said to be available next week, which could be the Nokia Connection 2008 in Singapore.

Nokia E71 is the slimmest business messaging device from Nokia so far. At 10 mm thickness, it has a built in GPS, bluetooth, WiFi and 3.2 megapixel camera. Another model Nokia E66 in slider form should be announced together with Nokia E71 too.

Nokia Announces New E-Series “Officially” on Reuters

It is not a secret anymore with Nokia posted the E71 and E66 flash demonstrationon their website. Yet Nokia has take its time to release the official info on the new business devices. A senior executive has confirmed the upcoming E-series to Reuters, although he did not confirm the phone model.

“We will in the third quarter bring to the market the N96 we have launched and a group of E-series multimedia computers that will be sure to have a strong stamp on where this market is going,” Anssi Vanjoki, senior executive vice presidentof Nokia Markets, told Reuters on Monday.

According to Reuters, Nokia will release the info in this 2 weeks. Both E-series multimedia computers will be available in this quarter. Most likely you will see the announcement before the CommunicAsia 2008, which is being held from 17 to 20 June 2008 in Singapore.

Nokia Demos E66 and E71 Online

As we were waiting for the official press announcement for the Nokia E66 and E71, both of them are still not yet to be announced until now. Over the weekend Nokia has put up the flash demo on their website.

Both the flash demonstration have a good bunch of information and features about the Nokia E66 and Nokia E71. Head over there now before Nokia pull it down from the website. You can also watch the video review from BGR last week here.

Nokia E71 Gets a Video Walkthrough

There is still no news on the offical announement, although it is no longer a secret in its design and features. Today boygeniusreport has done a 17 minutes video walkthough on the business device.

The Nokia E71 will be the slimmest business phone in the e-series. At a just 10mm thickness, the slim device has a full QWERTY keyboard for business users.

Rumor: Nokia E66 and E71 Press Photos

You have read quite a number of Nokia E66 and E71 rumors previously, although it didn’t get released on the rumor schedule, gsmhelpdesk.nl has claimed to have obtained the following press images of the Nokia E66 and E71.

The Nokia E66 continue the E6x series design with the sliding body. It keep the phone smaller with a bigger screen for business purpose like reading email or web surfing. The Nokia E71 will be the slimmest business phone in the e-series. At a just 10mm thickness, the slim device has a full QWERTY keyboard for business users. Its dimension is said to be 112 x 57 x 10 mm, and will comes with support of UMTS, HSDPA and WiFi. A built in GPS module has also been confirmed, and we also knew that it will have a 3.2 megapixel camera at its back.

More Nokia E66, E71 Spyshots too!

We heard that Nokia E71 will be announced today (Thursday), Engadget has obtained some spyshots of the E71. Those also include a few snaps on the unannounced Nokia E66, a slider business phone without a QWERTY keyboard. Both the Nokia E66 and E71 get a 3.2 megapixel camera with a flash LED for low light photography.

Compare to Nokia E61/E61, the E71 is definitely a winner with a slimmer dimension. It is said to have built in GPS, WiFi, bluetooth and support HSDPA data connection. Not much info on the Nokia E66, though it is also possible that Nokia will announce the E66 together with the E71 today. Stay tune for more updates today!
