Motorola Ends Their Android Update For 4 Devices

Motorola has decided to stop updates for several handsets. There won’t be any updates for the Motorola Clique Xt, the Motorola i1, Motorola Flipout, and Motorola Charm. As for now, both the Charm and Flipout are running Froyo. While the Clique Xt and i1 stuck with Cupcake.

So for those who used all the devices from following list above. It’s up to you weather stick with your device or times to do some upgrade, device wise. Currently, you have several choices such as Nexus S or the brand new dual screen handset, Kyocera Echo. Both devices will runs on Android 2.3.

Motorola CLIQ XT Will Stuck With Cupcake Forever

Previously, we have heard the CLIQ XT update to Android 2.1 will be held back quite sometimes. But today, Motorola has officially announce that the Motorola CLIQ XT will remain Android 1.5 forever. There’s won’t be any update for CLIQ XT.

Motorola decided to discontinued their plans on update because after the long and extensive testing, they decided that the new update will not provide “optimal customer experience” that Motorola wanted.

Ice Cream to Followed Honeycomb in the Android Dessert Lineup

Google has taken to naming their different platform from dessert. Starting from the alphabetic “C”, we have Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, and Froyo. Also, Gingerbread and Honeycomb which has just recently been confirmed by Google. Now, they are planning on the next generation on their Android OS called “Ice Cream”. But, this not a mere rumor that made up and posted in web.

The ARM president, Tudor Brown has personally told Forbes, when Google’s alphabetical naming scheme reached to “I”, they have prepared the next given name for the Android OS which is “Ice Cream”. However, it is still unsure weather “Ice Cream” will be v4.0 as Forbes suggested. As usual, Google refused to hands-out further information beyond Honeycomb. Ecstatic surely the word for this news but we have no official confirmation from Google themselves. So, don’t get you hopes up yet until Google actually say something.

Android Firmware RC33 Changelog Details Available

A check on the T-Mobile forum again today, Will (forum administrator) has managed to post the change log from the upcoming Android Firmware RC33 updates. The updates will add the ability of checking new software updates, save mms picture, google voice search and report comments in Android Market as spam. The Android Market will also display a “Updates Available” messaging when your installed application is updated. Some users have also reported to have received the updates over the air.

Fixes:

Comcast fails to download more than 1 email
- Symptom(s): No error message but it stays on “Load More Messages” without ever pulling another email.
“Messages” Stability Issue
- Symptom(s): When trying to send a message or exit the “Messaging” application you receive a pop up message that reads “Sorry! Activity Messaging (in application Messaging) is not responding. Force Close Wait”
WiFi forcing a logout of IM
- Symptom(s): While using the IM clients on the G1 if you turn on or off WiFi the sessions are terminated and you will need to sign back in.
No reminders for calendar items.
- Symptom(s): Missing appointments due to the lack of a reminder.
G1 hanging at the G1 Screen
- Symptom(s): A small number of G1 devices hanging at the G1 screen during the initial power up.

T-Mobile Pushing Out Android Firmware RC33 Updates

Posted on T-Mobile forums, the administrator of Android forum has confirmed an upcoming firmware updates. The firmware is version 1.1 RC33, it includes several bug fixes and feature enhancements but is not the Cupcake. The updates should be available on February 15th. According to TMOnews, “This OTA will include new system enhancements such as the ability to save pictures or files to file by long-pressing an item, check for system updates, and use the Google Voice Search feature. The OTA will also fix a number of known issues. New G1 activations will receive the OTA up to three days after service has been activated.”
