While a new Apple iPhone is expected to be revealed for year 2009, here is a concept design posted on dotdosh with a even slimmer body design. Is that good enough for current iPhone 3G users to upgrade their iPhone? [via gizmodo]

The Morph concept awarded the red dot: best of the best

The Morph concept has been awarded the red dot: design concept – an internationally recognized prize for highest quality design. The red dot design award ceremony was held in Singapore on November 28. In this year’s competition there were a total of 1,906 entries, out of which 21 concepts (including the Morph concept) were awarded the red dot: best of the best.

The Morph concept, launched alongside the Museum of Modern Art “Design and The Elastic Mind” exhibition last winter, showcases some revolutionary leaps being explored by Nokia Research Center (NRC) in collaboration with the Cambridge Nanoscience Centre (United Kingdom). Elements of Morph might be available to integrate into handheld devices within 7 years, though initially only at the high-end. However, nanotechnology may one day lead to low cost manufacturing solutions, and offers the possibility of integrating complex functionality at a low price.

I don’t know why — for one or another reason, I like this concept design. Although it’ll fit badly in your pocket, but seems it’s easy for you to hold it and playing your thumb on its clean keypad and menu buttons.

Apparently Heikki Juvonen “has focused on the design usability by creating a new balance in structure” as Design Launches blog wrote.

A designer proposes a concept phone for the Finnish phone maker: Nokia BMW video phone. This phone offers beautiful design and sophisticated features. Will Nokia interest in the concept before its rival picking it up?

The Nokia BMW comes with an interesting “push to open” mechanism that makes its display rotate 90 degrees turning the whole device into a handycam. Notice the original camera placement? Sony would probably love to invent something like this…

Mikhail Stawsky presents his Bluetooth Umbrella concept design that integrate a bluetooth handsfree speaker with the umbrella handle. With the built in speaker and wireless bluetooth connection, you will never miss a call during the rain and you can always keep your mobile phone in your bag. A small LCD screen is also available to display the caller ID and other information.

Other than using it for phone calls, it is also a radio receiver to receive Radio Station music.
