iPhone 3GS and 3G Going to China via China Unicom

With numerous rumors in the past one year, the Apple iPhone will finally invade China market through the China Unicom. According to the company press release, the iPhone is planned to be launched in Q4 this year. It will have a 3-years exclusive agreement, though the launched details especially the service plan and selling price are not revealed. Both the iPhone 3G and 3GS will be offered at the same time, reported on a chinese website.

On 28 August, the Company and Apple reached a three-year agreement for the Company to sell iPhone in China. The initial launch is expected to be in the fourth calendar quarter of 2009. This will provide users with brand new communication and information experience.

China Unicom starts 3G trial

China United Communications Corp. (China Unicom) recently launched W-CDMA 3G trial services in Baoding City in northern China’s Hebei Province, where China Mobile also set its TD-SCDMA trial.

Baoding is located around 140 kilometres south of Beijing. It covers an area of 40,000 sq. kilometers, with a population of 11 million. One third of its territory lies in the Taihang Mountains in the west, one third lies in the eastern plain area, the other third in the hilly land in between.

China Unicom has 129.46 million subscriber base for its GSM services, up from 128.55 million at the end of July. As of the end of April 2008, the company had 43 million CDMA subscribers.
