China Unicom to Sell Its Own Smartphone

China Unicom, the nation’s only mobile operator offering Apple’s iPhone, will sell new smartphone called UPhone by the end of this year. Being developed with Okwap, Huawei Technologies Co. and ZTE Corp, the phone will run on a new operating system based on Linux, according to Zhang Zhijiang, the company’s exec in an interview at the Mobile Asia Congress in Hong Kong.

Zhang explained, “U” means Unicom. “We just wanted to compare with the iPhone and LePhone.”But since the company didn’t share the specs’ details, “make the UPhone sound more like a low-end smartphone rather than a product comparable with the iPhone,” said Paul Wuh, a Hong Kong-based analyst.

Samsung Wave 723 Going To China

Samsung planning to release their Wave 723 to China. Samsung Wave 723 predicted heads to China Unicom. The handset will support SDK 1.1.

It features a 3.2-inch TFT LCD, Bluetooth, 5MP camera with LED flash, Samsung Apps support, microSD card slot and more. There are no further information regarding the device.

iPhone 4 Available in China from September 25

Apple and China Unicom are finally going to offer the new iPhone 4 in China this Saturday. It will start selling the iPhone 4 at the China Unicom shop as well as the Apple’s own retail stores.

Samsung Galaxy S Reaching China in 3 Variants

In partnership with three major mobile operators of China, Samsung is bringing its Galaxy S in 3 variants that supports different network standard. The China Telecom will offer the a CDMA2000 device (Model Name: SCH-I909), the China Mobile will offer a TD-SCDMA model (GT-I9008) and the China Unicom will use the WCDMA version (GT-I9088). China Telecom will first launch the Galaxy S this month, while the other 2 operators will start offering the phone by end of this year.

iPhone 4 Heads To China On September 16th

Last time, the news was saying that the iPhone 4 will launch on China Unicom in early September, approximately on September 13th. However today, there is new information regarding the iPhone 4 arrival to China. The second biggest carrier in China will be the iPhone 4 carrier and will launch the device on September 16th.

All the iPhone 4 will still have the same reception issues. But, China Unicom has been preparing solution regarding the matters. They will hands out a complimentary case for the iPhone 4 buyers.

Samsung Galaxy Saturn Takes Android 2.1 to China

There are quite a few Samsung Galaxies out there, aren’t there? Thankfully for the company, a galaxy is big, open place with lots of names to take from them, which are perfect for phones. This time around, we’ve got another Android-based device, and thankfully it’s coming with the latest version. Though, the more we look at the picture, it’s looking more like a weird amalgamation of Android 1.0 and 2.1 icons. That could just be a marketing glitch, or maybe it’s us being too picky. Either way, the device exists, and it’s not that bad.

The Saturn I6500U may look like a slider, but looks can be deceiving. It’s rocking a 3.2-inch HVGA AMOLED touchscreen, Bluetooth 2.1, GPS, WAPI, a 3.2MP camera on the back, and an FM Radio. Yes, we know, an FM Radio is definitely one of those need-to-have things, and we’re glad that Samsung has thrown it in there (along with the kitchen sink). However, the single best feature would probably be the 800MHz processor tucked nicely inside the framework. It’s also got a MicroSD card slot, where you can expand the memory up to 32GB.

The device is currently showcased on China Unicom’s website, which should mean the device is ready to purchase right now. It doesn’t look like this thing will be leaving the China-based wireless network any time soon (or, at all), but then again, if you’re looking for an Android device with the Samsung name branded on, perhaps you should look at another Galaxy altogether.

iPhone 3GS and 3G Going to China via China Unicom

With numerous rumors in the past one year, the Apple iPhone will finally invade China market through the China Unicom. According to the company press release, the iPhone is planned to be launched in Q4 this year. It will have a 3-years exclusive agreement, though the launched details especially the service plan and selling price are not revealed. Both the iPhone 3G and 3GS will be offered at the same time, reported on a chinese website.

On 28 August, the Company and Apple reached a three-year agreement for the Company to sell iPhone in China. The initial launch is expected to be in the fourth calendar quarter of 2009. This will provide users with brand new communication and information experience.

China Unicom starts 3G trial

China United Communications Corp. (China Unicom) recently launched W-CDMA 3G trial services in Baoding City in northern China’s Hebei Province, where China Mobile also set its TD-SCDMA trial.

Baoding is located around 140 kilometres south of Beijing. It covers an area of 40,000 sq. kilometers, with a population of 11 million. One third of its territory lies in the Taihang Mountains in the west, one third lies in the eastern plain area, the other third in the hilly land in between.

China Unicom has 129.46 million subscriber base for its GSM services, up from 128.55 million at the end of July. As of the end of April 2008, the company had 43 million CDMA subscribers.
