Verizon Wireless to Offer BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8230 from June 19th

Verizon Wireless and Research In Motion announced today the BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8230 smartphone will be available beginning June 19. The BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8230 will be available in silver color only. It has two color displays; the external LCD lets customers preview incoming messages without opening the handset. There are also a 2 megapixel camera, microSD card slot, SureType QWERTY keyboard on board.

The BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8230 smartphone will be $129.99 after a $70 mail-in rebate with a new two-year customer agreement. Customers will receive the rebate in the form of a debit card; upon receipt, customers may use the card as cash anywhere debit cards are accepted.

Alltel Wireless Launches the BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8230 Smartphone

Alltel Wireless announced today that the BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8230 smartphone from Research In Motion (RIM) will be available in retail stores and online at alltel.com beginning in early May. The clamshell design of the BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8230 smartphone allows users to discreetly screen calls and preview messages on the high-resolution external display or utilize the large internal display to respond to calls or messages, view maps and web pages, and play games.

Featuring a large SureType QWERTY keyboard, an intuitive user interface with trackball navigation, built-in GPS with BlackBerry Maps preloaded and support for locations based applications and services, and a 2 MP camera able to record video, the BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8230 smartphone is packed with powerful features, yet sleek enough to slip easily into a purse or pocket. Sprint today has posted the official version of 4.5 OS for the BlackBerry Pearl and Curve devices available for download. This update includes MMS support, improved email layout, local search, improved music management and Microsoft Word and PowerPoint Files Edit.

Orange to Launch Pay As You Go BlackBerry Internet Service in the UK

Orange is bringing the BlackBerry Pearl 8120 to its Pay As You Go (PAYG) customers. To take advantage of the Orange PAYG BlackBerry smartphone offer, customers must first purchase the BlackBerry Pearl 8120 for £145, which is exclusive to Orange in indigo. They can then choose one of Orange’s existing PAYG Animal packages, offering a choice of free rewards before taking out Orange’s PAYG BlackBerry Internet Service for just £5 per month, on a monthly rolling subscription.

The BlackBerry Pearl 8120, combines chic styling with full BlackBerry smartphone functionality. Features include a 2 megapixel camera with LED flash, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and media player (MP3, video, etc.).

GPS Unlocked on Verizon Wireless’s BlackBerry Curve and BlackBerry Pearl

Not sure if this is an intentional release, a non-official firmware update has unlocked the built in GPS of BlackBerry 8330 Curve and BlackBerry 8130 Pearl. Quite a number of users on BGR blog post and Howardforums have reported positive on the unlocked GPS. The GPS is said to be working with 4.5 OS but not the 4.3 OS.

BlackBerry Pearl Gets Voice search Support on Google Maps for Mobile

Other than the new Googld Talk for Apple iPhone, Google Maps for mobile team has also announced a new voice search feature on its search application. The new feature is compatible with a select group of BlackBerry devices at the moment include BlackBerry Pearl 8110, 8120 and 8130 in US.

According to the announcement on the team blog, here is the instruction on using the voice search:

Press “0″ to center the map view around your location
Press the left-side key and hold it while you say the name or type of business you’re looking for (for example, “pizza”)
When you’re done speaking, release the left-side key, and our voice recognition technology will figure out your request and find the business you’ve been looking for, no typing needed.

AT&T Launches the GPS-Enabled Blackberry Pearl 8110 Smartphone

AT&T and Research In Motion (RIM) today announced the launch of the BlackBerry Pearl 8110 smartphone, which includes built-in global positioning system (GPS) support for location-based applications and services. Combined with navigation and mapping applications such as AT&T Navigator, the handset provides turn-by-turn voice and on-screen directions. AT&T Navigator also alerts users through voice and on-screen prompts to traffic slowdowns and incidents along their programmed travel route, and it provides customers with the option to choose an alternative route.

The small and stylish BlackBerry Pearl 8110 smartphone from AT&T measures just 4.2 inches by 2.4 inches by 0.5 inches, weighs approximately 3.2 ounces and is available in a glossy titanium or rich red finish. It features the popular BlackBerry e-mail and messaging capabilities, including RIM’s SureType QWERTY keyboard. BoyGeniusReport has obtained images of the upcoming AT&T Branded BlackBerry Pearl 8110. According to the source, the phone will be available in one or two months time. The 8110 will have integrated GPS receiver, but might not come with integrated WiFi.
