HTC Legend for Virgin Mobile Available June 11th

Yes, you read that title correctly. We’ll go ahead and admit that this one slipped under our radar; hopefully you don’t mind, and put those pitch forks away. We will also admit that we’re a bit mystified that, for the second time in a row, Virgin Mobile has been given the go ahead to launch a high-profile device before its parent company, Bell Mobility. Yes, it happened with the BlackBerry Pearl 9100, and now MobileSyrup is reporting that, starting today, the Legend will launch for the smaller wireless carrier.

The Legend from HTC is an Android-powered handset. For all intents and purposes, it’s the big brother to the HTC Hero that launched last year. While the Hero was the flagship device showcasing Android 1.5, there’s nothing all that spectacular about the Legend. Yes, it does have an AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, but at only 3.2-inches, it just doesn’t seem to be big enough in today’s smartphone market (funny how quickly things change). There’s a 5MP camera on the back, and a 600MHz Qualcomm processor under the hood.

As for pricing, it looks like it will be $79.99 on a new, three-year contract. Oddly enough, it doesn’t look like you can get the device on a new, two-year contract. As for out-right pricing, you can buy it without a contract for $349.99, which isn’t bad at all. If anyone’s up there in the Great North and can stop into their Virgin Mobile brick-and-mortar location, let us know if you can pick up your HTC Legend today or not. Canadian Best Buy Puts BlackBerry Pearl 9100 and Motorola DEXT and QUENCH for Pre-Order

There’s no better way to make sure that you get a highly anticipated device than to pre-order it, and Best Buy up in Canada wants to make sure that you do just that with a few of their upcoming handsets. The BlackBerry Pearl 9100, the Motorola DEXT, and the Motorola QUENCH are all up for pre-order right now if you’re interested, and you really think that there’s going to be a line.

Both of the Motorola handsets are Android-based, and also feature the company’s MotoBLUR customized User Interface. As you’ve heard in the past, MotoBLUR is just another one of the social networking integration methodologies all of these companies are coming up with, with real-time streaming keeping you in the know at all times.

As for the BlackBerry Pearl 9100, or known as the Pearl 3G down South, that’s also up for pre-order. You can do the deed with any of the devices by going in store and dropping $50 to reserve your handset, in which case they’ll give you a call as to when they’re available. The DEXT is going to be released by Bell Mobility, and the QUENCH will hit Rogers. The BlackBerry is being pre-ordered for TELUS only right now, and that will probably go for $29.99.

RIM BlackBerry Pearl 3G Heading to Bell Mobility for $129 on May 13th

Research In Motion’s latest Pearl handset is definitely beginning to make the rounds up there in Canada. We first heard that it was going to launch for TELUS in the next month or so, and for a ridiculously low price. This time around, we’ve got Bell Mobility getting their hands on the small device, but they’re not tagging on a small price tag, it seems.

Mobile Syrup have been informed by a couple of their contacts that the BlackBerry Pearl 3G 9100 will be launched for Bell Mobility on May 13th. So, it won’t be long before Bell customers get to try their hands at the smaller trackpad, the WiFi access, and BlackBerry OS 5.0. As a bonus deal, too, Bell is apparently throwing in a 2GB MicroSD card, just to sweeten the deal.

And, if these pricing structures are accurate, they’re definitely going to need to sweeten the deal, if they want to survive against the competition. The suggested retail price of the Pearl 3G is $329.95, so that’s not bad. But, they don’t do much to subsidize the price after you’ve signed the contract. For three years, you’ll get the handset for $129.95. Two year contract it jumps up to $179.95, and for a one year contract you’ll have to drop $279.95. Like we said, Bell’s got some wiggle room with this, considering TELUS is selling it for next to nothing. We’ll see what happens.

Bell Now Offers Novatel Wireless MiFi 2372 Intelligent Mobile Hotspot

Bell announced the launch of the MiFi 2372 Intelligent Mobile Hotspot from Novatel Wireless. The MiFi 2372 operates on Bell’s new HSPA network and offers simultaneous Wi-Fi connectivity for up to five devices or users. It also includes a microSD slot for expandable memory of up to 16 gigabytes.

Compatible with Windows, Mac and Linux operating systems, the MiFi 2372 delivers download speeds up to 7.2 megabits per second with enhanced performance for simultaneous uploads/downloads and large file transfers. It supports up to five simultaneous users located within 30 feet of the device.

The Novatel Wireless MiFi 2372 Intelligent Mobile Hotspot is available nationally for as little as $99.95 on a three year contract or for $249.95 without a contract.

Bell Mobility launches LG Xenon HSPA touchscreen mobile phone

Bell announced the launch of the new LG Xenon HSPA touchscreen mobile phone, supporting Bell Mobility’s HSPA wireless network.

The LG Xenon comes equipped with a large 71mm (2.8″) touchscreen display and a unique customizable user interface that allows for three distinct home screens. Palm Pre Launching in Canada this month

Bell today announced that the new Palm Pre phone will be exclusively available in Canada at Bell Mobility on August 27. The company has start accepting pre-order through bell.ca/pre, it will be available from $199.95 on a three-year contract or
$599.95 without a contract with a minimum 500 MB data plan.

Bell smartphone clients can choose from a wide variety of voice and data plans, including Smartphone Combos that offer unlimited Internet browsing, personal email, text messaging and Windows Live Messenger.

Palm today announced that Palm Pre, the first phone based on the new Palm webOS mobile platform, will debut in Canada exclusively on Bell Mobility’s 3G high-speed mobile network in the second half of 2009. The smartphone will be first launched in US by June next month. Bell Mobility’s pricing for the phone has not yet been determined.

Bell to bring Twitter’s SMS service to Canada

Bell and Twitter today announced that Bell Mobility will offer Canadians full SMS (Short Messaging Service, or mobile text messaging) support for interacting with Twitter.

Twitter is a communication network that enables users to send and receive text based posts of up to 140 characters (known as “tweets”). Updates are displayed on a users profile page at Twitter.com and delivered in real time to those who’ve signed up for them. Twitter updates can also be received through integration with other social networking sites, including Facebook, MySpace, Linkedin (using Twhirl software) or via SMS, RSS or Twittermobile.

Palm Centro Now Available in Canada on Bell Mobility’s High-speed Mobile Network

Palm Centro smartphone is now available in Canada on Bell Mobility’s high-speed mobile network (1xEv-DO). Centro, which has sold more than two million units worldwide, comes in soft-touch Midnight Black with 128MB of available memory, Facebook for Palm, and Google Maps with the My Location feature. Facebook for Palm lets users connect with friends, respond to messages, upload photos and videos, receive status updates, browse friends’ profiles and send out new friend requests.

Users can shoot pictures or videos with the built-in digital camera. The Midnight Black Centro from Bell has 128MB of available memory and the ability to add up to 4GB more with a microSD card (sold separately). LG Recalls LG-150 in Canada

Bell Mobility announced that it is supporting LG Canada in its voluntary recall of approximately 45,000 LG 150 phones in use by Bell Mobility clients with a no-charge phone replacement program. LG was notified by one of the independent bodies responsible for the certification of mobile phones that the LG 150 mobile phone is no longer certified as meeting the Radio Standards Specifications 102 (RSS 102), Radio Frequency Exposure Compliance of Radiocommunication Apparatus.

The LG 150 was sold in Canada by Bell Mobility, Virgin Mobile, MTS Allstream, SaskTel, Aliant Mobility, KMTS, NorthernTel, Sogetel, Télébec and TBayTel. Bell Mobility clients with LG 150 phones can return them to a Bell Store from today until March 31, 2009 and receive an LG replacement phone at no cost in accordance with the terms of LG’s recall program.
