Apple Announces Over 100,000 Apps Now Available on the App Store

Apple announced that developers have created over 100,000 apps for the revolutionary App Store. Apple continues to improve search and discovery with new features including Genius for Apps, App Store Essentials selections, sub category listings and more valuable customer reviews. With the recently introduced iTunes 9, it’s also now easier than ever to organize and sync your apps right in iTunes and they will automatically appear on your iPhone or iPod touch with the same layout.

“The App Store, now with over 100,000 applications available, is clearly a major differentiator for millions of iPhone and iPod touch customers around the world,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “The iPhone SDK created the first great platform for mobile applications and our customers are loving all of the amazing apps our developers are creating.”

The surest way for someone to generate attention is by making an Apple prediction. Apple has a cult following, and its product development and launch strategy is famously secretive, so the fact that your source is the lunch counter guy across the block from the Hon Hai factory in Taiwan won’t be discovered (or may even be considered authoritative!). Financial analysts are often the worst offenders – we have been promised an Apple tablet more times than I can count, assured that an iPhone nano was on the way, and where’s that iPod touch with a camera? M1 to Offer Apple iPhone in Singapore after SingTel

M1 and Apple has announced that it have reached an agreement to offer iPhone for M1’s subscribers in Singapore by the end of this year. No info on the pricing, tariffs and released schedule will be available later. The latest Apple’s iPhone 3GS is currently offered by SingTel exclusively in Singapore.

Vodafone too, Offering iPhone in UK and Ireland

Vodafone today has announced that it will also offer the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS to UK and Ireland, bringing it the third official iPhone provider in Q1 2010. Pricing, tariffs and availability information is not available yet, but this will definitely benefits the consumers with more competition among O2, Orange and Vodafone.

Apple’s App Store Downloads Top Two Billion

Apple today announced that more than two billion apps have been downloaded from its App Store, that’s 500 millions more since July. There are now more than 85,000 apps available, with over 125,000 developers in Apple’s iPhone Developer Program.

“The rate of App Store downloads continues to accelerate with users downloading a staggering two billion apps in just over a year, including more than half a billion apps this quarter alone,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “The App Store has reinvented what you can do with a mobile handheld device, and our users are clearly loving it.”

The first one billion application downloads was done in nine months announced in April, and the second one billion downloads was much faster with more iPhone users in the world.

Orange UK to Offer iPhone 3G and 3GS

While O2 has been offering iPhone exclusively in UK, UK users will soon to be able to purchase the iPhone 3G and 3GS from Orange, according to Orange UK’s announcement today. The company has reached an agreement with Apple, although the pricing detail is not revealed at the moment. A pre-registration site for customers to log their interest has been launched at www.Orange.co.uk/iPhone

Apple fixes iPhone SMS Vulnerability with 3.0.1 Software Update

Fixing a new SMS vulnerability found on iPhone OS 3.0, Apple has just released the OS 3.0.1 software update via the iTunes software. The update file is around 280MB, a huge file though Apple didn’t mention if it has also included other new features or changes with the latest updates.

The App Store is also growing at an incredible pace with more than 65,000 apps and more than 100,000 developers in the iPhone Developer Program. iPhone Dev Team Updates redsn0w and ultrasn0w for iPhone 3GS

Both the famous redsn0w jailbreak and ultrasn0w unlocking tool can now support iPhone 3GS with the latest version. iPhone Dev Team has just released the tools, although they had previously decided to postpone the release until iPhone OS 3.1 is out. Check out the download instruction here.

We realize we upset some folks (e.g. existing 3GS owners) with our earlier announcement that we wanted to hold onto the 3GS iBoot-family hole until 3.1 was out. Our aim there was to get as many people as possible onboard (within reason of course) before revealing the hole, since Apple will fix it immediately. But all of that became moot when the purplera1n release was made, since it uses the same hole.

ultrasn0w unlockers — You all must remain particularly vigilant against upgrading your basebands, since doing so will kill the unlock (for most phones, there’s no going backwards in baseband version). Apple has gotten very serious with the latest baseband — they’ve removed 180 (!) commands in an effort to cut down their exposure to holes. So please always stay away from stock Apple IPSWs and instead use our tools as we release them. These tools let you update your firmware without updating your baseband.

Those installing ultrasn0w will probably also need to do a single run of Settings->General->Reset->Reset Network Settings. We’re testing various fixes for that particular glitch.

redsn0w platforms — This is the first redsn0w release that also supports linux! It’s the newest version of the bunch, so any feedback would be appreciated. But right now, redsn0w should work on OS X, Windows, and linux.

iPhone OS 3.1 Updates Coming Soon

Bug fixes or more features are coming soon with the new iPhone OS 3.1? Apple has released a new iPhone SDK 3.1 and iPhone OS 3.1 for developers. The beta version can be downloaded and used for application development. There is no detail change log released by Apple but at least one user has noticed few changes for example, mms enabled on AT&T network, able to save video as different copy when trimming video and bug fixes.
