Amazon has recently launch their Android apps store. Now, they are letting its customers to test drive android apps by using virtual machine. This means you can try any applications that seems interesting weather it requires payment or not (free apps).

Amazon explains their new advantage of so called test drive as the following.

Clicking the “Test drive now” button launches a copy of this app on Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), a web service that provides on-demand compute capacity in the cloud for developers. When you click on the simulated phone using your mouse, we send those inputs over the Internet to the app running on Amazon EC2 – just like your mobile device would send a finger tap to the app. Our servers then send the video and audio output from the app back to your computer. All this happens in real time, allowing you to explore the features of the app as if it were running on your mobile device.

This is a great idea that Amazon has comes up with. I think with this test drive system, we don’t have to be concern if the app is bad and only attractive ’cause of the pictures and explanation.

After going through 2 months of approval process in Apple, Skyfire is said to be approved and available from this Thursday for $2.99. According to CNNMoney, Skyfire’s flash video delivery with its browser is similar to its Android version. The browser is not a standalone iPhone App, but is built on top of the original Safari browser. When users click on a page that contains Flash video, Skyfire’s servers download, render and translate the video into HTML5, which is a Web standard that iOS devices support. Skyfire then displays a thumbnail that users can click on to stream the video from its servers.

Dropbox, a popular online data storage service, has updated its mobile apps for iPhone, iPad and Android platform. It has also officially released the new Dropbox for Blackberry smartphone. The Dropbox service is free, for the first 2GB storage space, or you can subscribe to its premium service for more space.

Dropbox, the leading provider of Internet file and document syncing and sharing services, today announced a new set of mobile apps, including updates for the company’s popular iPhone, iPad and Android apps, and the first release of the new Dropbox for BlackBerry. In addition, Dropbox announced there are over 100 third party mobile applications now in market that use the company’s mobile APIs to make mobile document editing, image capture, note taking and other features available to Dropbox users. Since the initial iPhone version in 2009, and iPad and Android release in May 2010, millions of people have started using Dropbox mobile apps to access their most important documents and files directly from their favorite devices, anytime and anywhere.

“In both their work and their leisure time, people increasingly use an array of Internet connected devices, and not just a single computer,” says Drew Houston, co-founder and CEO of Dropbox. “Dropbox offers a common thread that ties all of these systems together, making important files and data immediately available regardless of device. Not only does this make the individual devices more useful, but this helps enable the broader industry transition towards mobile phones and tablets.”

In May, Dropbox opened its API to mobile developers, allowing them to bring user files and documents directly into their mobile applications. Since then, with the growing popularity and capabilities of new mobile devices, the company has seen a surge in interest from mobile app developers. In that time, over 100 mobile applications that integrate with Dropbox have been made available.

Today’s announcements include:

New Dropbox for BlackBerry: The company has announced the general availability of Dropbox for BlackBerry, bringing file access and viewing directly to the popular line of smart phones. The application is available for immediate download at http://dropbox.com/anywhere.

New release of Dropbox for iPhone and iPad: As the #1 productivity app for the iPad in the App Store, Dropbox has already become a popular way to make the most of the device at home, school or work. With new iOS release of Dropbox, users will have new features and performance enhancements, including automatic offline caching for recently accessed files, support for HD video and high-resolution photo capture, numerous user interface enhancements including a new home screen and progress display, full screen landscape document viewing on iPad and the support for multitasking to allow files to upload or download in the background. This update is available for free via Apple’s App Store.

New release of Dropbox for Android: Available for download via Google’s App Market, Dropbox for Android has been enhanced with support for photo galleries and multi-photo upload, ability to automatically send files to Dropbox from other apps, progress bar and notifications for file transfers, and other new features and fixes.

New Dropbox App Directory: To make it easier to find and evaluate the over 100 partner applications that are built with the Dropbox API, there is a new Dropbox partner app directory now available at http://dropbox.com/apps. This directory features app information, screenshots and reviews from some of the most popular productivity app providers.

Dropbox’s mobile apps, the Dropbox enabled partner apps and information on the Dropbox mobile API are available at http://www.dropbox.com/anywhere. Developers can find technical information, sample code and other resources for building apps with the Mobile API at http://developer.dropbox.com.

If you’re on the European network O2, and you’ve got yourself an iPhone, then you’re about to get another method to get on some free WiFi hotspots. The Cloud is a WiFi provider over across the pond, and the company has launched an application for the iPhone that allows owners to find, and connect, to hotspots provided by The Cloud.

But, the best part of the whole thing is that the app is free, and so is connecting to the WiFi hotspots. Free all around, and you can never go wrong with a free app that provides you with a free service, right? Of course, The Cloud’s CEO is saying that you should jump all over this app before the World Cup kicks off, so that you can access live streams of the games while you’re not at home. That seems like a perfectly legitimate reason to us.

The app is called FastConnect, and it’s available in the App Store right now for your downloading pleasure. The real question we’re asking ourselves right now, is how Apple would take the news of this app over here in the States. After all, Apple went on a cleaning binge through their digital store earlier in the year, and applications that do what FastConnect does were on the shirking list. Very interesting indeed.

Here we are at another edition of SlashPhone’s Week in Review. We’re glad you could make it, as we take a look back at the last week in the cell phone industry, and bring it all back to your mind’s eye before we start a new, news-filled week. We’re excited about what’s been, but we’re also looking forward to what’s coming. So, before we get too distracted by all the sparkle and glamor of the future, let’s take a seat and look over what the week before brought us.

Monday, April 12th:

As Apple moves forward with their latest version of the epic iPhone OS, we welcome the new 4th generation. But, with the inexorable change that we all must face, we also must understand that products of yesteryear will be forgotten. That’s exactly what Apple has made official: they won’t be supporting the original iPhone in the coming months, or into the future. So, if you’ve been waiting to upgrade, the next iPhone may be what you need to do.

Microsoft officially announced their social-networking devices, the Kin One and Kin Two on Monday as well. The two devices are specifically aimed for teenagers or “social” networkers, and the two devices couldn’t look any more different from one another. We can’t imagine the Kin One will see much face time with folks, but the Kin Two isn’t that bad of a device. Definitely worth taking a second look.

Tuesday, April 13th:

When Opera Mini was launched on the iPhone, the world was stunned. But, it didn’t last long, because consumers quickly acted on the new addition to the App Store. Records were probably broken, as the mobile browser was downloaded one million times. Pretty impressive numbers, if you ask us. (And probably Opera.)

HTC, in the mean time, is apparently speculating over whether or not they want to develop their own mobile Operating System. Google does it, Research In Motion and Apple do it, and all of those companies are insanely popular and successful. So, why shouldn’t they? With all this talk of them purchasing Palm, that may not be too far from the truth.

Wednesday, April 14th:

Someone at Verizon Wireless must have jumped the gun, because one day before the official announcement regarding the Droid Incredible by HTC, the splash page for the device’s “Coming Soon” goodness hit the Internet. It showed the final testament to what everyone already knew: the new handset was coming to Verizon Wireless. It was pulled from online shelves soon, but then relaunched with a password protection the same day. And then, sure enough, it’s now public again for everyone to see.

So, when’s the new iPhone going to be unveiled? Everyone is pointing at June 22nd, and we’re pointing with them. A booking for the date at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco on that date confirms it, more or less. So, save the date for late June, as we expect a brand new, shiny iPhone to get announced.

Thursday, April 15th:

Sure enough, only a day after the coming soon page broke the Internet’s curtain, Verizon Wireless finally officially announced the new Droid Incredible by HTC. So, while everyone was waiting for the Nexus One, it seems that Verizon Wireless will be releasing their own branded, 3.7-inch AMOLED, Android 2.1-powered handset on April 29th. Are you excited yet?

Friday, April 16th:

Sony Ericsson may not be the best phone manufacturer on the planet, but we’re still fond of them. And, we’re glad to hear that they managed to make quite a big profit this last quarter. Their strategy to sell a fewer amount of handsets, but put them in a far more pricier bracket has worked out for them. And, accordingly, they are going to stick to that methodology for good measure.

Saturday, April 17th:

The iPhone 4G/HD hit the floor in a San Jose bar, and pictures immediately made their way to the Internet. There’s still some speculation about the authenticity of the device, but we can honestly see Apple changing their pace with the iPhone’s design, and going a bit out of their box to create the next generation piece of hardware. We also like those two buttons on the side, too. Who knows what they do, though. We’ll have to wait and see if it turns out to be real.

Opera Mini for iPhone has become extremely popular on its launch day, earning 1 million downloads and is ranked number one in 22 App Stores of different regions. “Today iPhone users have a choice, and, as the numbers show, they are eager to explore new and faster ways to surf the Web on the iPhone – especially during heavy Web traffic,” said Lars Boilesen, CEO, Opera Software. “With any widely available and frequently downloaded Opera product, we are appreciative of all the feedback we are getting, as it helps us to continually improve our product and better meet the needs of our users.” [via slashgear]
