There’s still little information regarding the handset. Also, Aircell has not classified which version of Android OS will the Aircell smartphone obtain. The device features a 3.8-inch touchscreen LCD and Bluetooth. In this case, Bluetooth is essential for the users in order for them to talk. It will be available in late 2011, price tba.

It’s one thing to get a new phone, but something entirely different to get a new phone, and then even more perks just for purchasing that phone. For example, if you were one of the lucky ones to get your hands on a new HTC HD2 from T-Mobile USA, we hope you like to fly, because Aircell is offering you free Gogo Inflight WiFi access for six months. Pretty good deal, if you ask us. But, then again, we really enjoy random free things.

“Aircell is constantly striving to partner with companies that can enrich the inflight experience,” said Aircell President and CEO Michael Small. “With the newest smartphone from T-Mobile, we can provide our customers with a simple, yet powerful way to stay connected, even at 35,000 feet.”

You save $4.95 per session, and if you’re a frequent flier that loves to use WiFi while at 35,000 feet, then that’s a pretty good savings. Gogo inflight WiFi is currently available on 760 commercial aircraft, and statistics show that the service follows 2,600 daily flights throughout the continental United States. Obviously, the company plans for the service to continue to roll out through the rest of this year, as well as the months beyond that. The more WiFi in our airplanes, the better. If you’ve got the HTC HD2, you’ll simply go to your Favorites menu, and sign up for the service. It will give you service for up to six months after registration, or until June 30, 2011 — whichever comes first. So, get flyin’! Oh, and if you’re still not sold on the HD2, check out the review of the original, European model right here. We’re sure it’ll make you want one.

Aircell announced its intention to base its fourth generation (4G) mobile broadband network on Long Term Evolution (LTE), the emerging standard for advanced mobile broadband networks and services. Aircell plans to deploy LTE to enable the next generation ultra-high bandwidth mobile services such as hi-definition and interactive TV and multi- player immersive gaming that passengers will come to expect.

“The 4G market is still evolving but one thing is for sure, passengers will want the same mobile broadband services in the air that they have on the ground,” stated Joe Cruz, CTO, Aircell. “Aircell’s choice of LTE ensures that our network will continue to support the services customers demand today and in the future. With LTE, Aircell’s Air-to-Ground (ATG) Inflight Internet technology is future-proofed.”

Currently the company is using an exclusive FCC frequency license, CDMA Evolution-Data Optimized (EV-DO) Rev A protocol and network optimization and acceleration technology to deliver an effective data rate of more than 12 Mbps peak to Gogo-equipped aircraft. By the end of 2009, further advances in existing technologies will enable Aircell to deliver a raw data rate of up to 22.7 Mbps to aircraft. By the beginning of 2011, Aircell expects to deploy its 4G LTE network, which will enable a throughput of up to 300 Mbps to aircraft.

Aircell has received two critical FAA approvals that bring inflight mobile broadband connectivity one step closer to the flying public.Aircell is now the first and only communications operator to receive approvals from the FAA to provide air-to-ground (ATG) inflight mobile broadband for U.S. domestic flights.

With its manufacturing facility fully operational and approved by the FAA, Aircell is producing the equipment needed to bring its inflight Internet service to American Airlines and Virgin America in 2008. Enough manufacturing capacity is in place to accommodate rapid service introduction to all future partners as well.

“Having received these critical approvals from the FAA, we now have the ability to rapidly expand to the rest of American’s 767-200 fleet,” said Joe Cruz, SVP and CTO of Aircell. “Initially we will provide passengers flying between Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York and Miami inflight Internet, which research indicates passengers want and need,” continued Cruz. “Working collaboratively with the FAA to receive the initial STC helps pave the way for future certifications on additional aircraft used by our airline partners.”
