MWC2009: Kingston Digital Releases 16GB microSDHC Card

Kingston Digital announced it is releasing a 16GB microSDHC Flash memory card for use in mobile phones. The larger capacity card offers greater storage options for the latest mobile phones and other digital devices and joins the microSDHC card family which includes the 4- and 8GB products.

The Kingston 16GB microSDHC card (Kingston part #: SDC2/16GB) has a suggested price of $90.00 (MSRP U.S.). Although the microSDHC card format is identical in physical size to the original microSD card, microSDHC is compatible with microSDHC host devices and not backward compatible with standard microSD-enabled devices or readers.

SanDisk today announced that it will be shipping its 16 gigabyte (GB) SanDisk Mobile Ultra microSDHC and Memory Stick Micro (M2) mobile memory cards this month. The Mobile Ultra series will feature a class 4 microSDHC card, which will have a faster speed compare to the current class 2 16GB microSDHC card. For added convenience, the card is bundled with a MobileMate Micro Reader that plugs directly into a USB 2.0-compatible port, enabling quick transport and easy management of digital content without the need to purchase additional equipment.

“As consumers listen to music, view photos, take and watch videos on their phones, the need for high-capacity removable mobile phone memory cards that can quickly transfer these files increases,” said Diana Cartwright, senior director, retail marketing, SanDisk. “Our new 16GB SanDisk Mobile Ultra microSDHC and M2 cards include a MobileMate Micro reader for fast side-loading, offering the most convenient means for people to store, move and play digital content to and from their mobile phones.”

The 16GB SanDisk Mobile Ultra microSDHC and Memory Stick Micro (M2) cards carry a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $119.99 and $129.99, respectively.

SanDisk 16GB microSDHC Card Can Be Used on T-Mobile G1 Android Phone

With the newly announced SanDisk 16GB microSDHC memory card, Android Community has got the confirmation from Google that the upcoming T-Mobile G1 is ready to support the 16GB card. SanDisk’s 16GB microSDHC card has an MSRP of $99.99 and the 16GB M2 card has an MSRP of $129.99. The new 16GB capacity will be available at Best Buy Mobile stores in October and Verizon Wireless stores in November, some of the online stores have also started to sell the memory card online.

SanDisk today announced it is bringing to market its 16GB microSDHC and Memory Stick Micro (M2) mobile memory cards. Best Buy Mobile and Verizon Wireless stores are the first major retail outlets in the United States to carry the 16GB capacity. SanDisk’s 16GB microSDHC card has an MSRP of $99.99 and the 16GB M2 card has an MSRP of $129.99. The new 16GB capacity will be available at Best Buy Mobile stores in October and Verizon Wireless stores in November.

MicroSD cards are designed for slot-equipped legacy mobile phones and can hold a maximum capacity of 2GB. Today’s microSDHC cards are available in 4GB, 8GB and now 16GB, are ideal for newer mobile phone models, most of which are compatible with these higher capacity cards. The Memory Stick Micro (M2) cards are designed for Sony Ericsson’s new generation of mobile phones, all of which are compatible with the 2GB, 4GB, 8GB and 16GB capacity levels. SanDisk’s 16GB mobile memory cards come with a five-year limited warranty.

Although there isn’t any official announcement yet, few online stores have started to sell the new SanDisk 16GB microSDHC and Memory Stick Micro (M2). According to SlashGear, the official worldwide release date is October 2008. The 16GB microSDHC will be sold between $90 to $99 USD depends on your local pricing. The 16GB Memory Stick Micro (M2) card will is around $129.99.
