Sonim Technologies announced that it will embark on a partnership with Land Rover, which includes the launch of co-branded mobile phone products as well as an eco-friendly packaging. Two co-branded phones will enter the market by mid-2009 – the Land Rover S1 by Sonim and Land Rover S2 G4 by Sonim. This will be followed later in the year by the launch of a third Land Rover phone. Sonim and Land Rover will co-market the phones to top operators, mobile retailers and consumers in a staggering 40 countries.

“In less than two years, Sonim has set the bar for engineering best-in-class rugged mobile phones for people who work and play in extreme environments,” said Bob Plaschke, Sonim’s Chief Executive Officer. “We are delighted to be partnering with Land Rover on this range of rugged mobile phones.”

The Land Rover phones will be submersible, Bluetooth-compliant and certified to withstand salt, fog, humidity, transport and thermal shock and a 1.6-metre drop to concrete from any angle. To deliver further against Sonim and Land Rover’s distinctive marketplace proposition, the partners engaged iconic designer Scott Wilson, to develop the product lines.

I was looking online for a rugged type phone and found the Land Rover S1 and the Land Rover S1 G4 by Sonim.I work in the construction trades and have bin replaceing and/or trying to repair the cell phones I’ve bin useing so far. It’s costly and very depressing when I’m on the phone and rain starts or the dust comes on strong or I have to be so carefull on trying not to drop it.Basically duck and cover because of weather conditions.I lose money when I have to tell my clients or customers to hold on for a second so I can find someplace to get under cover. My question is when will this phone become available to the public if it hasen’t allready and what carrier will it be supplied to?Hopefully these phones will be supplied soon because my current cell phone is on it’s last leg.Thank You for the time and the current information supplied this far, signed, Chris Thomas.P.S.The carrier I’m useing so far is AT&T, Thank You.

Chris Thomas, you should check out Peltor WS Alert Bluetooth, I use it in environments of 110+dB and have no problems communicating phonewise or normalwise (the headset filters out the noise very very effectivly. Now all I need is a phone that can handle knocks and bangs when I am working. Sonim XP3 was on my short list but the lack of camera put me off. I routinely use the camera on my phone to photograph notes, memos, serialnumbers, codes etc for future reference. Being without is not an option. Also I rely on being able to send and receive pictures with clients and employer. Heres hoping for the sonim/landrover.
