Skype Mobile Now Available on Verizon Wireless

Just as we mentioned before, Skype is coming to a Verizon Wireless network Android and BlackBerry device near you. Thankfully, the carrier kept to their word, and the VoIP service is now available, right from your phone. It’s available in either device’s application market, so it’s an easy –and free– download. As you have come to expect from Skype, all of your Skype-to-Skype calls will be free, and won’t work against your allotted monthly minutes from your plan.

The device list is pretty decent, with smartphones obviously being the only devices in the running to get the application and service. For Android-based devices, you can download Skype on the Motorola DROID, HTC DROID Eris, or the Motorola Devour (which, coincidentally, is now available). For the BlackBerry in your life: BlackBerry Storm, BlackBerry Storm 2, Curve 8330, Curve 8530, 8830 World Edition, and the Tour 9630. So, a pretty good line-up, but one we imagine that some customers out there would wish to be more expansive.

You need to be on an unlimited data plan to take advantage of Skype Mobile as well, so keep that in mind. From your device, you’ll be able to make an unlimited amount of Skype-to-Skype calls, send free Instant Messages to other Skype users, make cheaper international calls, as well as handle your Skype address book. While it may not make sense for the average user, or someone who already has unlimited text messages/minutes, for those looking for a quick, free remedy to keeping more minutes every month, Skype is a great alternative. As long as you know enough people who are using the service as well.

Another At&t type move…taking over your cell phone. When will the mobile carriers understand at some point in time people are going to get very very tired of paying the outrageously priced Plans. I feel no carrier should have the right to control your cell phone by not allowing you to use Wifi. Skype is the way to go and the carriers know it and are trying everything they can to stop them.

Here’s my problem, I am in a bit of dilema, I have had my Apple iPhone 3G for the last couple of years and it’s been great. It is my understanding that Apple has a new software update due out called OS 4 and it’s supposed to be adding some new bells & whistles to the Apple iPhone. I actually just bought Verizon’s new HTC Incredible the HTC Incredible and it’s an incredible phone, way better than the Apple 3G, BUT I’m hearing that Apple is supposed to be coming out with a completely iphone altogether, and it’s supposed to be really nice but no one has any ideas as to when and Apple isn’t saying a thing. Should I keep my HTC Incredible, that I have 30 days to test and give back if I do not want to keep it, or should I give it back, keep my current iPhone 3G and wait for the release for the new iPhone- tough to make up my mind.
