Samsung T959 Heading to T-Mobile USA
But, that’s not the interesting part. Yes, you’ve seen all sorts of Samsung models pass through here with that same T-xxx designation, and they were all heading to T-Mobile USA in the past, so we have no reason to expect that this won’t be the case for this device, too. But, there’s a bit of a tricky situation going on here: the Samsung T959 seems to feature a lot of the same, and nearly the same features of the Samsung Galaxy S.
Yes, you read that right. Here’s what we have so far: the Bluetooth SIG has just approved the Samsung SCH-T959, which is all well and good. But, instead of this just being another rudimentary device, or even a handset like the Behold II, this one stands out. At the bottom of the document, you’ll see the features listed as such: 4.0-inch AMOLED touchscreen display, TouchWiz 3.0, and embedded Android Operating System. As we said, these are the same features that the Samsung Galaxy S has, and, unless Samsung has a completely hidden handset out there, seems to be the only device with these features.
The trouble is, and it doesn’t have anything to do with the typos in the document (of which, we confidently believe, are just typos), is the fact that the Samsung Galaxy S features a Super AMOLED display, and not merely the “regular” AMOLED. Yes, we know it’s a trivial thing, and probably just another typo. Or, it could be that companies have been given the greenlight to call Super AMOLED just AMOLED, but we certainly hope that’s not the case. You’d want to differentiate from the rest, and adding that “super” label does that just well. We’ll keep our eyes on this one, and pass anything else on that we hear.
