As we all know, there are a few smartphones out there sporting a projector, many of you might say that’s ridiculous, some business people might say that’s a great addition. The point is, a projector on a mobile handset can be very useful for many smartphone users for many reasons but useful nonetheless. So Samsung wants to reach those users via their upcoming i8520 handset.
Many of you will see some resemblance with Samsung’s first Bada device, the Wave S8500 and the i8520 (on the image above and 2 more photos below). But according to Engadget, the Samsung i8520 is a different handset running on Android 2.1 and it will be revealed as the “Halo”.
The Samsung i8520 “Halo” comes with a 3.7 WVGA Super AMOLED display, an 8 megapixel autofocus camera with flash as well as a VGA camera on the front, 720p / 30fps video encoding / decoding, DivX and Xvid playback support. There’s also Bluetooth 2.1, a 3.5mm headphone jack, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, A-GPS, 16GB of internal storage and microSD expansion, stereo speakers, DLNA support, and of course an integrated DLP pico projector.
This upcoming Samsung handset also comes with quad-band GSM / EDGE with tri-band UMTS 900 / 1900 / 2100 and will ship in Q3 2010 to Europe and Asia with a chance for a US version coming later. No word on pricing just yet. Do you like this handset and think there’s a good chance for it in the real world? Let us know in the comments.
