Rumor: Microsoft Set to Announce Application Store for Windows Mobile Next Month?

In line with what we heard last year, Microsoft is planning to launch its online application store for Windows Mobile next month at Mobile World Congress 2009 in Barcelona. According to NeoWin, not only Microsoft will announce the application store, called SkyMarket, it will also announce Windows Mobile 6.5, SkyBox and SkyLine mobile services.

The new SkyBox is similar to Apple iPhone’s MobileMe service. It will sync with your windows mobile phones over the air so that a copy of your phone data, photos or other files can be accessed online. The SkyLine is a service specially for Microsoft Exchange user for better integration on the smartphone.

Let’s hope MS will encourage charging for apps in the months ahead. All this “free” stuff is dizzying and of miniscule value. If deleted all the apps from my phone, I would not miss any, which is to say, what does that say for the value creation we as mobile developers are creating?
