Everything is eventual, it seems. While the Palm Pre struck Bell Mobility up in Canada with a big splash, it looks like time has taken its toll, and now the premiere smartphone has taken as big a price drop as it can: it’s free. And, not only that, it’s free on several variations of a plan, which means that you’d basically have to hate this device not to pick it up.

While 3-year contracts tend to be the norm around the world, there’s usually a significant price increase for choosing a two-year version. Not so with the Palm Pre. While it launched at the regular $199.95 on a 3-year contract last year, it subsequently saw many price drops: from $99.95 to $49.95, before it’s ultimate resting place, smack-dab at that zero marker. You can pick up the Palm Pre, with its 8GB of internal memory, 3.1-inch capacitive touchscreen, portrait slider, and good ol’ webOS for $0.00 on a 3-year contract.
But, that’s not all. If you don’t want to sign your life away for three years, then why not do it for two? That’s right, you can even pick up the Palm Pre for $0.00 on a 2-year contract. Pretty bold statement from the wireless carrier. And while there’s never been any official word on how many Pres the company has sold, we’re sure they’re about to get at least a small increase in sales with this move.
