Nokia and IBM announced IBM Lotus Notes support for a number of Nokia’s S60-based mobile phones, which enable Lotus Notes users to access email with their Nokia devices. With this announcement, users can connect to corporate email accounts via Lotus Domino Server software known as Lotus Notes Traveler. This software provides real time access to email, calendar, address book, journal and to-do list data and will be available for Nokia devices in December 2008.

“This is another strong affirmation of our business mobility vision, which is to establish partnerships with the world’s leading enterprise vendors. This collaboration means nearly 90 percent of business email can be mobilized with Nokia devices, without needing to purchase additional servers, middleware or licenses. With the presence, position and technology that IBM have in the corporate email market, they are an essential partner for us in enterprise,” says Soren Petersen, senior vice president, Nokia. “People need to be connected to their email, information and network when they are out of the office and that has to be done conveniently and on their terms. Lotus Notes Traveler for Nokia devices is a great example of that.”

Nokia needs to make a Mobile VPN client that actaully works and can connect using PPTP, OpenVPN, OpenSSL, Cisco Concentrator etc. Nokia doesn’t care about its business users too much, else it’d beat Blackberry!

I’ve always been a Nokia user, but one of the one biggest business related holes which I’ve noticed in Nokia S60 devices is their VPN implementation.

Power / Business users need proper VPN, even the crappy version 1 iPhone can do basic PPTP connections. Nokia can only do the horrible and expensive to implement ‘IPsec’ (Who uses that?). Good luck finding affordable IPsec VPN providers for home use.

Eseries has been out for years, why isn’t Nokia covering PPTP and Open SSL/OpenVPN? It’s just software isn’t it?

This means a lot to those who live in countries like United Arab Emirates, China, & Saudi Arabia where most of the cool sites/services like Last.FM, Flickr, All SIP services, Skype etc, have been blocked for years. This lack of proper VPN support hurts us financially, as much I like Nokia, they really suck at implementing proper VPN.

I’ve ever using Nokia E61 before, which filled with Seven Push mail Beta, it can handle push mail for free without application server needed.

Have spend 5 months in attempt to get Nokia Mobile VPN working.
Its should be written in the dictionary as a definition of the Time-wasting.
Nokia, how could you do such nasty thing for your very own customers?

Thanks God, now I am using SymVPN – PPTP based VPN solution from http://www.telexy.com
It is working perfectly on my Nokia E90 and configuration takes just from 1 to 2 min maximum. Accessing Lotus Notes too.
