Atrua Technologies announced today that Lenovo Mobile selected Atrua’s made-for-mobile fingerprint solution for Lenovo’s recently launched P960 mobile phone. In addition, Lenovo’s P960 has an innovative “VIP recording” feature that automatically records calls from designated numbers. The fingerprint biometric technology is used in the P960 to protect sensitive data such as VIP recordings, text messages, call history, and address book information.
“We are pleased to see a recognized leader in fingerprint for laptops adopt our technology for their mobile phone and we are delighted to have the opportunity to support such a leading global manufacturer in their ongoing effort to bring greater levels of security and convenience to users of mobile devices,” commented Anthony Gioeli, CEO of Atrua.
The Lenovo Mobile P960 is a touch screen phone and comes with a 1.3 megapixel camera, 2.8-inch display screen, microSD card slot and stylus. It only supports GSM DualBand network and will only able to connect to GPRS network.

I would be interested to see demand figures for phones with biometric security. So far, it looks like there is traction in specific markets outside of the United States. I am of the opinion that until one of the major players like Blackberry or Apple’s iPhone make a credible biometric offering this will still be a very niche play. Best of luck and will try to follow how it goes.
