Well, well, well, look at what we have here. Considering the hooplah that the HTC HD2 has been given concerning an update to Windows Phone 7 Series (which is not happening), there’s no surprise that rumors about its successor would start to come down the pipe. Well, here we go: the HD3 has just come up on our radar, looking as good as any fan-made render we’ve ever seen. What was that? Fan-made render? We’ll explain.

With the ton of Windows Phone 7 Series information we received today, we’ve pieced together a pretty clear picture about what’s to come. Of course, we have Microsoft to thank for that, as they clearly “detailed” just what, exactly, they are planning for the release of their upcoming mobile Operating System. Those specifications are non-negotiable, and Microsoft is sticking to their guns on this one. So, why are we saying that the images you’re seeing here of the HTC HD3 are fake? Here’s why:
The specifications include a 4.5-inch multitouch capacitive touchscreen, with a resolution of 1280×800 (strike one).
It’s got 1GB of on board RAM (which is fine); and it has 1GB of on board memory (strike two).
And it says there’s 32GB of external memory (strike three).

As has been detailed, Windows Phone 7 Series is launching at the end of this year with one, and only one screen reoslution: 800×480. Furthermore, at some point in the future, the resolutions will then include 480×320. As you can see, there’s no mention of a monstrous resolution of 1280×800. Secondly, while the 1GB of RAM is fine, the 1GB of on board memory is not. Again, Microsoft has made it perfectly clear that 8GB of on board storage is the minimum that manufacturers can go. And finally, tied to the memory, is that 32GB of expandable memory. Also a no-go. As it currently stands, Microsoft is not allowing expandable memory on the Windows Phone 7 Series platform.
Here’s the full break down of the supposed specifications, just for your own satisfaction:
