Funambol has announced the availability of a new BREW version of its award-winning mobile messaging software. The Funambol BREW Push Email Client enables BREW-based mobile phones to perform push email with leading email services such as Yahoo! Mail, Gmail, AOL Mail and  Hotmail, as well as POP/IMAP email servers. It also syncs contacts with popular desktop clients such as Outlook. The new software enables CDMA carriers around the world to support hundreds of millions of additional mobile phone users. It also extends Funambol’s breadth of device coverage to support close to two billion handsets.

“Our new BREW client enables Funambol to support almost two billion phones for push email,” said Fabrizio Capobianco, Funambol CEO. “It enables CDMA operators to provide hundreds of million of users with a compelling mobile messaging experience. It also strengthens Funambol as the leading cross-platform mobile open source project.”

BREW stands for “Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless”. It is an application development platform created by Qualcomm for mobile phones. The new Funambol BREW Push Email Client uses SyncML (OMA DS) to support almost all of the smart and feature phones in service worldwide.
