Can't download VCast music to PC

I'm getting a free one-month trial to Verizon's VCast, and I can't download music from the VCast website to my Windows Media Player 10 on my tablet PC. (As an aside, I can play audio CD's, rip music from those CD's into WMP 10, sync that music to my VCast cellphone, and then play the synced music with no problems at all. The problem is exclusively downloading music from the VCast website to my tablet PC.)

I installed everything from the Verizon Music Essentials Software package as I should have, including ActiveX controls. I "purchased" a free promotional song to give the thing a try. However, I can't download it, nor can I download any of the three other free songs that I "purchased." I keep getting this error message in the VCast download manager box: "You might have a problem in getting D/L related information (code: 0x2004)." From the Microsoft Windows Media website, that code is a media transfer protocol (MTP) error code that indicates an invalid TransactionID, that the TransactionID is zero or does not refer to a valid transaction. This indicates an internal error in MTP stack. However, the Microsoft website gives no indication how to fix the problem.

I spent over two hours with Verizon on the phone, plus doing other steps on my own or on the recommendations of Gateway E-mail support to try and fix the problem. These steps included:

1. Uninstalling and reinstalling the media player at least three times, both with the VCast software and directly from the WMP 10 website.

2. Disabling antivirus and firewall programs.

3. Updating digital media player security through this website:
http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/Indivsite/en/indivit.asp.

4. Doing a complete "System Restore" to a time point before the computer ever saw any VCast software. This required me to download the ActiveX control file VZWDLManager.cab (Verizon Wireless Download Manager), which I did successfully. (Without downloading this file, I can't even bring up the VCast download manager box.)

5. Trying to download after booting up the computer in "safe mode with networking."

6. Disable all of my startup programs by running the "msconfig" utility in case there was a conflict with one of them.

7. Bought a song on the phone for $1.99. A phone purchase is accompanied by a companion file to download on the PC. When I logged in to V Cast music, I saw the song that I had just purchased on the phone, ready for download. When I clicked "Download," the download manager box opened, there was a short delay where nothing happened, and then the same error message "You might have a problem in getting D/L related information (code: 0x2004)" appeared. So I can't download either free or purchased music.

Nothing worked. Verizon accessed my account on their end with no problem. They tried to download the same promotional song as I simultaneously. They were successful. I was not. I kept getting the same error message with code 0x2004.

It doesn't make any sense. My computer is only 4 months old. It's a Gateway tablet PC that runs Windows XP Professional (2005 Tablet PC edition) and WMP 10. Everything is up to date and state-of-the-art. I have no idea why I can't download music or what I can do to fix the problem. I don't know if the tablet PC interface is interfering with the download, but that doesn't make any sense. Now, I am totally at a loss as to how to proceed from here. Any help anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
