Fandango has just launched a service that, up until recently, we were all sitting in the office talking about. After all, we’re in the electronic era, but still we’re forced to either print our tickets at home (which speeds things up at least a little bit), or stand in those ridiculous lines. We don’t know about you, but we hate lines. So, knowing that Fandango is offering up paperless tickets, makes us happy inside.

Fandango officially launched the service yesterday, which allows for you to receive your ticket (after you’ve purchased it from an appropriate Fandango mobile application) by an SMS or MMS. When you receive the message, it’ll have a 2D barcode, which then can be scanned at appropriate theaters. As we mentioned in the title, at the time of the launch there’s only 8 cities being supported for the service right now:
- Hawaii: Ward Stadium; Kahala Theater; Kapolei 16; Mililani Stadium
- Bakersfield: Valley Plaza 16
- Dallas/Plano: Angelika Dallas; Angelika Plano
- Houston: Angelika Film Center
- New Jersey: Manville 12 Plex
- Sonoma County: Rohnert Park 16
- New York: City Cinemas 1, 2, and 3; Angelika Film Center; East 86th Street Cinemas; Village East Cinema; Beekman Theatre; The Paris Theatre
- San Diego: Le Mesa Grossmont Center; Clairemont Town Square Stadium
Why is this great service only in 8 cities? Because theaters that decide they want to aide Fandango in this paperless revolution need to have special scanners to actually accept your digital ticket. Despite the fact the initial roll-out is happening in only eight cities, we’re glad to see that so many theaters are actually being supported within those cities. Hopefully Fandango continues to roll-out this beautiful feature, because we can’t wait to have our tickets for Iron Man 2 on our phone.
