Skype has released new Skype for Windows Mobile today, the new version 2.2.0.45 supports Windows Mobile 6.1 officially. No other improvements are listed in the release note though. (Image below is the Skype beta version)

Optus is set to deliver a larger choice of mobile handsets to people in the bush by partnering with Thuraya Telecommunications (Thuraya). Optus will retail two of Thuraya's new mobile handsets - a Satellite Only and GSM/Satellite dual mode handset.

Qwest Communications is now offering Verizon Wireless services to all new residential and business customers in its residential service area. Through the five-year agent agreement announced earlier this year, new Qwest customers can now purchase Verizon Wireless products and services, including handsets, smartphones and BlackBerry devices, as well as high-speed wireless broadband services for e-mail, Internet access and multimedia services.

Qualcomm today announced that it has completed the world's first data call using High-Speed Packet Access Plus (HSPA+) network technology. The call achieved a data transfer rate of more than 20 Mbps in a 5 MHz channel. HSPA+ will allow operators to double the data and triple the voice capacity of their networks compared to current HSPA deployments.

Although there isn't a confirm release date for Xperia X1 windows mobile smartphone yet, SEMC Blog today revealed some unannounced accessories made for the Xperia X1. Is this indicating a release date for this year? We last heard it will be released in mid-September this year.

The unofficial Sony Ericsson blog has got some pictures on the K330 in White-Gold and the W890 candybar phone in Gold-Silver color. Available from Q3 this year, the K330 is a entry level camera phone that comes with bluetooth, VGA camera, FM Radio and 10 MB internal memory.

Google has just released an updated version of their Google Maps for mobile to version 2.2. The version 2.2 is available for Symbian S60 (3rd edition or later) and Windows Mobile (2005 or later). The new version has already been released to Blackberry devices and Java-based software, they are adding the Transit directions feature to even more mobile devices today.
